1. How about Labor Day blogging on Cape Cod?
Granted, it's out of the box thinking, but. . . . .

We've got at least six members of the Smedley D. Butler Brigade of the Veterans for Peace joining us. Here's who we are:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=158x4021

We will be in and around the Bourne rotary greeting folks coming off the cape. There are two ways to drive a car off Cape Cod - this is one of them. The usual traffic backup is about five miles & moves at a walking pace.

Granted we talk funny up heah, but Duers are DUers.

3. Keep us in mind. This could very well be the First Annual
Bourne rotary Labor Day Blog-a-thon. At the moment, we have about 16 people who have indicated they will make it - six of them are from the Veterans for Peace.

We're still working out logistics - parking, potties, water, etc. There's a 50/50 chance we can get a Congresscritter join us for a few hours.

I'll be sure to post pictures the day after.

Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack to Keynote GADCC Annual Dinner on August 20

Attorney General Thurbert Baker to Receive Richard B. Russell Public Service Award

(Atlanta) The Georgia Association of Democratic County Chairs (GADCC) and the Democratic Party of Georgia (DPG) are pleased to announce that Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack will keynote the GADCC Annual Dinner on August 20, 2005 at 5:00 pm. The dinner will be held at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, located at 3590 Riverside Drive in Macon (exit 169 on Interstate 75). The GADCC Dinner raises funds that are used exclusively to assist county Democratic parties with operations and political organizing.

“We are excited that Governor Vilsack will be headlining this year’s GADCC Dinner, and help us make this the most successful event in our history,” said Angelia Knight, GADCC President.

“As part of our commitment to assisting and building our county parties, we are bringing in a national Democratic star as the keynote, and we believe Governor Vilsack will make an already great event even better,” said Bobby Kahn, Chair of the DPG.

Governor Vilsack is the nation’s senior Democratic Governor, first elected in 1998. He is recognized as an innovator on children's, economic, and healthcare policy and making government more efficient and accessible. Governor Vilsack is the Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council, a national organization of elected officials and community leaders whose innovative ideas are modernizing progressive politics for the 21st Century. The DLC is widely credited with helping launch the successful 1992 presidential campaign of Bill Clinton, who also served as its Chairman.

“I’m excited to join the men and women who are the backbone of Georgia’s Democratic Party in celebrating Thurbert Baker for his innovation and effective agenda as Attorney General,” said Governor Vilsack. “The GADCC represents some of the brightest, most loyal and dedicated leaders of our Party who are committed to building a better community that provides opportunity for all Georgians.”

Attorney General Thurbert Baker will receive the 24th Annual Richard B. Russell Public Service Award, which is presented at each GADCC Dinner. Attorney General Baker was first elected in 1998, and was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2002. He is currently the President-elect of the National Association of Attorneys General. Attorney General Baker has focused his efforts on fighting crime and consumer fraud, as well as on ensuring the enforcement of Georgia’s open government laws and maintaining the independence of the Attorney General’s office. He proposed Georgia's groundbreaking financial identity fraud statute, which allows him to prosecute scam artists that steal consumers' personal identifying information and use it to commit crimes. Mr. Baker pushed through the General Assembly a bill that toughened penalties for domestic abusers, including a provision making it a crime to commit an act of domestic violence in the presence of a child, and he has fought to protect Georgia's children by proposing and successfully passing legislation that increased penalties for child pornographers.

9. North Fulton Democrats: "Democratic Values and Faith".
Wednesday, August 10, 7:15 p.m. - North Fulton Democrats Meeting
Join us August 10th for an important panel discussion on "Democratic Values and Faith". The mixing of politics and religion in our country has Democrats asking the same questions Jim Wallis asks (author of God’s Politics):"Since when did believing in God and having moral values make you pro-war, pro-rich, and pro-Republican? And since when did promoting and pursuing a progressive social agenda with a concern for economic security, health care, and educational opportunity mean you had to put faith in God aside?" We have invited several local religious leaders to participate in our panel discussion. Don't miss this meeting!

The North Fulton Democrats meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:15 pm at StarTime Entertainment's Comedy Club in Roswell. StarTime is located at 608 Holcomb Bridge Rd, Roswell, GA 30076, behind the Mall on the Northeast corner of Holcomb Bridge Rd and Alpharetta Hwy. You'll see signs for Hobby Lobby, Shoe Gallery, and StarTime Entertainment. (One of the entrances is on Commerce Pkwy, just north of Holcomb Bridge, off of Alpharetta Hwy.) Please join us for great food, great information, and help us make great progress in North Fulton. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a social time before the meeting.

10. A question about NFD
What is the affiliation of this group? Are they part of the Fulton County Democrats or a separate group? What happens to the money raised? I'm curious because I am a member of the Fulton Dems but never see any of the North Fulton leadership at the Fulton Dems meetings anymore. What's the scoop on that?
