now I hope the family can finally find some peace.
BTW -- I am friends with this family, and Derwin's sister is my coworker.
Two men accused in the slaying of DeKalb County sheriff-elect Derwin Brown were convicted today by a federal jury.
Melvin Walker, 41, and David Ramsey, 33, face life prison terms as a result of the convictions, which included murder-for-hire charges, in the 2000 shooting of Brown, who defeated former sheriff Sidney Dorsey.
Jurors notified court officials shortly before noon that they had reached a verdict. It was announced about 12:40 p.m.
Key testimony in the federal trial came from former sheriff's deputy Patrick Cuffy and Paul Skyers, two conspirators granted immunity by local prosecutors.
Cuffy testified Walker was the triggerman and that Ramsey was at the scene as a backup shooter.
All four men worked for a private security firm owned by Dorsey, who was convicted on state murder conspiracy charges but was not indicted in the federal case involving Walker and Ramsey.
On the night of Brown's murder, federal prosecutors said, Walker and Ramsey made seven cellphone calls concerning the slaying.
