Just kind of curious, I'm not moving there or anything, just wanted to know what it was like. Thanks in advance. :-)

1. Comapred to Los Angeles?
GOP hell, for sure.

And the traffic on I-85 coming out of Atlanta is getting really bad, but, then again, compared to Los Angeles it might not be so bad.

3. Actually, compared to Georgia
I already know that L.A. is more liberal than most in American cities but I also know that there are liberal oases throughout the south and other red states. How does Suwanee hold up to say... Athens, GA?

4. No comparison.

Athens is a liberal Mecca. Suwanee is Repuke burbs.

Atlanta is cool, mind you, but the burbs around it are insufferable, politically.

6. I just found out it is represented by Saxby Chambliss
:puke: and that pretty much says it all.

This person I grew up with lives down there these days... and wow! The more I find out about this persons present life the better I feel about myself.

19. I live in Athens and I can tell you: Suwanee is no Athens, GA.
:) Suwanee's only claim to fame is the Falcon's training camp.

2. I would estimate most of the
burbs in Georgia are highly GOP leaning. Suwanee also has a lot of money living there. Without doing any real checking I feel safe saying GOP hell.

See that bright red circle around beautiful, blue Atlanta in the NW corner of the state? Those are the ATL burbs.

10. Oh, we'll need a bigger map for that!
:)

1. ATLANTA (Fulton, Dekalb, and Clayton counties--all pretty blue).
2. Athens (blue but small, virtually covered by the number 2)
3. Augusta (Richmond county--GA's 2nd largest city)
4. Macon (Bibb county, my home, and blue--but just barely)
5. Columbus (Muscogee county and also barely blue)
6. Savannah (Chatham county--Georgia's most conservative urban area, and quite purple).
* Suwanee (Gwinnett county--still red and still Puke burbs, but going purple as ATL's population grows)

Much of the area around ATL is very red. The line of purple from Augusta to Columbus is what we call the "fall line." You'll find higher-than-average African-American populations in these areas, driving the color toward blue.

Hope that helps.

12. I wondered that myself.
That's Hancock County, population 10,076. It's very poor and very blue.

I added another city to the map.

7. Albany (Dougherty County--Georgia's bluest medium-sized city)

13. Suwanee is very red, but also LOTS of $$ there!
My husband works there, but we live about 15 miles north in Hall County. It's red here too, but not nearly as much $$ and at least a little purple.

I belong to the local Dem group, and I have high hopes for energizing the 2008 campaign. We had a large group of supporters for Dean when he was the candidate! Seems to me that we could gain a lot of support if we can get a candidate who is willing to be honest with people like Dean was. That's what people are really longing for.

17. What are the differences? If you don't mind me asking...

Because I grew up in the northeast and live out west now and there is a definite difference between the coasts.
