Local GOP leader STOLE money from Oconee Co veterans memorial fund
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 07:44 PM by CottonBear
and he hasn't been charged with a crime. :grr: He had to resign from the planning commission and says he'll repay the money. Why the hell is his ass not in jail or at lest out on bail? Because all of Oconee county is run by corrupt, greedy, asshole Republicans. :grr:

Jim Ivey is an uber-asshole Republican who lives in Oconee County. He owns a computer business in Athens. He hates Athens and he hates Democrats. He funded the Athens-Clarke County commission campaign of one of his black woman employees and ran her as a Republican in our blue town during the last election. (She lost, of course.)

He and other hard core Republicans proposed to build a veterans memorial at a county park. I bet that all of the people and businesses (mostly Republicans) who donated money to the fund are extra pissed at Jim now. To top things off, he sort of looks like Tom Delay with a mustache. :(

Oconee Planning Commission Member Jim Ivey Resigns
Reads Public Statement at BOC Meeting

By Wendell Dawson, Editor, AVOC, Inc.

Sources have told AVOC that Jim Ivey, former State Senate Candidate, has resigned from the Oconee Planning Commission. The reports said it apparently had something to do with financial considerations. For several years, Ivey has spearheaded an effort to build a Veteran’s Memorial at the New Park on GA Hwy 53.

Attendees at the Oconee BOC meeting on December 6, 2005 heard Ivey read a prepared statement that said substantially that he had used some of the Veterans Memorial funds in an incorrect way. He said he had been advised that the action was illegal. He stated that he would repay the money.

The amount of money involved was not divulged. It is not known if criminal charges have been filed. Representatives of the press were present at the BOC meeting when the statement was read during “Citizen Comments” portion of the BOC agenda.

Ivey has been prominent in Oconee Republican Party leadership and activities for several years. He has been a spokesman for the county with visits by the Governor and other prominent Republican officials. He was appointed to a state level committee (Lottery Commission?) by the Governor.

(Caution: this is a rabid RW website run by the former Republican County Commissioner. Imagine a lawyer Boss Hog type. The story hasn't hit the local newspapers or radio yet as this occured late last night at the Oconee County Commission meeting.)

edit: I wonder if he's a chickenhawk. He looks to be old enough to have served during Vietnam. Hmm. I'll just have to find out.
