Atlanta help
Could someone from Atlanta or who knows Atlants PM me? I'm trying to figure out hotels, relative proximity, and whether the area is safe. Thanks in advance.

1. Know the area well
Reply, here, I am new to the board and don't pm yet or let me know how. I have lived in the atlanta area for close to 20 years.

3. How quickly do you need to know these things?
Also, are you going to Atlanta on business or are you contemplating moving there? It might make a difference in the responses you get. Atlanta is a city of many layers, and the longer you have there, the more you peel off.

4. Just coming for a meeting.
I consider my currently location (DC) too far south ;-)

5. Nice to see you're approaching it
with an open mind then. Or not.

6. I'm approaching the trip with an open mind
That's why I came here to get some local info. I have no desire to move anywhere with hotter summers than DC. Not sure how you interpreted that comment.

7. That's why I asked
if you were coming for a visit or to live here. You'll get different responses depending on what you're looking for, not because anyone's trying to mislead you, but to help you understand what life in Atlanta is like. You'll get one set of answers if you're coming to visit and another if you're thinking about moving here, because obviously one is vastly different from the other.

8. Yep. Same thing with DC
Visiting is totally different than living here. So if I can break free for a few hours, what should I see/do? Looks like a lot goes on around the GWCC (concerts and stuff), but not so much this time of year.

10. Lots to do
The new georgia aquarium opened. The atlanta zoo is only a short drive from downtown, 2 miles or so and is a very good zoo, the cyclorama is also there (battle of atlanta painting). There are many fun neighborhoods with dining and entertaining, Virginia Highlands, East Atlanta, Decatur (City about 6 miles from downtown and MARTA accessible, the local transit system), Little 5 points (alternative chic type place). You could also try Underground Atlanta that is in the heart of downtown, they have Kenny's Alley that is now supposed to be an open bar type area where you can stroll between bars and nightclubs with drinks. Try http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/ for lots more information. There are also new areas just south of the city, East Point and College Park, that have a few good restaurants and bars and they straddle the north south MARTA line.
Good Luck

9. Thanks
Yes, one that I know of. I haven't tried it but have heard good things about it. I ate at Rolling Bones barbeque today, on Edgewood not but a mile or two from the heart of downtown, tasty.
www.accessatlanta.com or www.cln.com both have listings for restaurants in the area. Let me know of anything in particular.

11. So - how was your visit?
Gonna move to the ATL?

Summers are not as humid as DC
The city is liberal, the state conservative
