John Barrow, is he our best shot of winning in the 12th district?
He is currently the favorite of state Democrats to defeat Max Burns for Congress, winning endorsements from individuals like Pierre Howard, Max Cleland, State Representative Tom Bordeaux, and State Representative Louise McBee..who is now retiring. Word is out that Barrow is also the favorite candidate of former President Jimmy Carter.

Max Burns currently leads the list of Congressional pickups for the Democratic Party. Burns won in 2002, only after Democrats nominated a candidate defeated for once being arrested and having odd business dealings. The 12th district has a higher percentage of Democratic voters than the 2nd, 4th, or 13th districts. The golden question..who is best positioned to win these votes?

IMHO Barrow is this candidate. He has remained focused on the local issues most likely to unite Democrats against Max Burns. Barrow can win the necessary votes..from Athens to Savannah. He has not allowed himself to get sidetracked by issues that would divide Democrats..like the war in Iraq. Instead he has focused on Burns' lack of concern concerning cuts in the VA and disabled Vets. And he rips the incumbent on the largest spending increases in history.

A vote for John Barrow will bring us another step closer to having universal healthcare, paying down the debt, and using an effective long-term strategy for spending our tax dollars.

1. I like Barrow too.
Met him at a fundraiser a couple of weeks ago. He's got the look, he says the right stuff, and he's got more money that the other Dems.

2. I'm a fan of Haines
I think that if Haines can pull of the primary (on 7/20), which may be a long shot, he's got a decent chance of beating Burns in the general. He's the underdog and has a history of fighting for environmental issues and stands out more than Barrow against republicans . . .

He needs help with name recognition, though, and Barrow's got $ for TV ads before the primary.

5. I love all the candidates runnning in the 12th..
Tony Center, Haines, and Barrow. Even though I have met each of these individuals, I am probably the least qualified to make judgement on who to vote for since I don't live in the district. But I wouldn´t mind having some of these candidates run in my district!

6. Now that the race has turned negative? Probably.
I really like Caine Cortellino, and will vote for him, as I know him best. And even if this isn't his year, remember that name. He has "IT."

I've met them all as live near Savannah, and they've all campainged heavily here.

8. Savannah area.
It has to do with an endorsement one received and a charge that the endorsement was bought.

And now that's about the only thing the local media can talk about when mentioning the race.

such as here:
http://savannahnow.com/stories/062104/2252276.shtml

It seems to me that it might have only been a matter of renting office space and hiring a staff person. I don't know.

And I'm still undecided in this race except that I will NOT vote for Center tomorrow. I'm rather upset with him over this, but I'll have to get over it if he does win the nomination. ;)

I hate it when Dems knock each other during the nomination. That's like handing the ammo to your future opponent.
