Unsolicited endorsement of wonderful Slovakian restaurant in Marietta
My girlfriend is director of admissions for the library college at Downtown U., so she went on a recruiting trip to the Atlanta area this week and brought me along as navigator, relief driver and sing along with-er. One visit was to the public library in Marietta (or Roswell; we were a bit unclear). Not finding it at first, we found instead a Slovakian restaurant in the middle of town and resolved to try to return. This was Wednesday when the weather was so horrible and we were staying halfway the other end of the world near Six Flags. The idea of driving back via interstate through that weather and rush hour traffic held no appeal. The Slovakian place didn't open until 6 and we had a couple of hours to work with. We hung out in a bar called Crystal's, at 150 Roswell St. If you like hole-in-the-wall type bars, it is very highly recommended. The people were very friendly and didn't begrudge us just sitting around drinking sodas and waiting for another place to open. In fact one of the bartenders put $2 in the jukebox for us. I'd call that a pretty friendly sort of place.

But the thread was supposed to be about the Slovakian restaurant. They're at 164 Roswell St, or here http://www.slovakiarestaurant.com/
The place is lovely, the staff is friendly and the food wonderful. Alice had the Slovakian ghoulash. I had the Chicken 'Patrik', ie potato pancake folded around a creamy chicken stew. Both were delicious. We regretted only that we didn't have a refrigerator or microwave at the hotel room so that a doggy bag was impractical. For Atlantans or for visitors with a good grasp of how to get around the Atlanta area, Slovakia Restaurant is highly recommended.
