Do we live in a state full of big babies?
http://www.ajc.com/search/content/metro/gwinnett/stories/2006/12/12/gwxpotter1212a.html The Harry Potter controversy goes to the state school board. Laura Mallory says that the Harry Potter books lead kids to witchcraft. Of course, like most of the talibornagain, they can't produce actual evidence of their accusation. Why can't she homeschool like the rest of her ilk who don't want their kids exposed to "harmful influences", i.e. anyone not like them. :eyes:

http://www.ajc.com/search/content/metro/stories/2006/12/11/metlanguage1211a.html "No Spanish on my dime" :wtf: what's that about? The workers, from south of the border, can't speak Spanish on the job. If this freeper felt that strongly, why can't she hire workers from the USA? That's right! US citizens have rights and won't work for minimum wage. Also, where has she had to speak other than English to get something in the metro area? Freeper hypocrite. :eyes:

http://www.ajc.com/search/content/metro/stories/2006/12/09/metmood1209a.html Cherokee County's anti-immigrant stance forcing landlords not to rent to illegal immigrants and making English the official language. Another excuse for racial profiling and a local municipality over-stepping its bounds. On the MARTA train, I hear Russian (little known fact, there's a sizeable Russian and Eastern European population) and various other languages, but those sheet-wearing freepers don't seem to have a problem there. Because they have the right "qualifications", i.e. skin tone, they're okay! :eyes:

In addition to the above incidents, the new legislature and state commissions (esp. the PSC) have more republicans than before. Listen for the screams of pain when the state government add more pro-business/anti-consumer/anti-labor policies and just roll over the people.

I guess that answered that question.

3. LOL!
 We've got lots of them in the suburban/rural counties around Athens. The liberal influence of UGA extends only so far. :eyes:

Well, there *is* a direct correlation between education and intelligence, and Jawja, as I so lovingly refer to my home of the past twenty-three years, is low-man on the totem pole in edumacation scores nationwide.

5. There's more
http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/legis07/stories/2007/03/15/0315metconfe.html Proposal for a Confederate history month. :wtf: The state recognizes Robert E. Lee's Birthday and Confederate Memorial Day as state holidays. http://www.georgia.gov/00/channel_modifieddate/0,2096,4802_64437763,00.html. The same people who came up with that at the same time balked at the idea of the state apologizing for slavery and jim crow segregation. The US is the only country that commemorates the losers of a war. :eyes: BTW, here's the state's Letter of Secession, http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/csa/geosec.htm

Rash of north metro incorporations. I'd say that John Sugg sums it up nicely http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid:202868 I was at one of my watering holes, and the conversation turned to this topic. One guy, a resident of Sandy Springs, talked the campaign propaganda line about how they're so neglected and the corrupt county commission and about how all their money gets sent to the south part of the county. The other guy asked if race had a part, and I said, of course, notice the demographics of the new cities. The S.Springs guy gave me a look of sheer horror, as if I saw a KKK robe hanging in his closet, and he said no, race has nothing to do with it, backpedaling very quickly. I said, how much of the campaign line is actually true? The roads appear to be in good order, trash isn't piled up where it shouldn't be, but the new city government and cops seem to have nothing better to but whine about strip joints and post in front of American Pie and the other night spots along Roswell Rd. Of course, he couldn't answer.
