A former Bainbridge pastor under investigation for alleged child molestation has been arrested in Costa Rica, Sheriff Wiley Griffin confirmed Thursday.
The Sheriff's Office had been seeking David Jonathan Barrett, pastor of the local religious group known as the House of Living Water Messianic Assembly, after some members of the group alleged he had unlawful sexual contact with a minor, Capt. Gale Bowyer of the Sheriff's Office said previously.
Sheriff Griffin said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that Barrett had been arrested in Costa Rica, after deputies had obtained warrants for his arrest in December 2006.
According to Bowyer, Barrett faces Georgia charges of aggravated child molestation, three counts of child molestation and three counts of enticing a minor for indecent purposes.
Sheriff Griffin said Barrett may be brought back to the United States within a few weeks.

The Tico Times, an English newspaper based in San José, Costa Rica, quoted a news release from INTERPOL, an international police agency, as saying Barrett had been arrested in an Internet café located in the city of Alajuela, where he had lived in four different homes for three months at a time. Costa Rica is located in Central America and is bordered by Nicaragua and Panama.
Barrett had previously served as a missionary in Costa Rica and met his wife there, Bowyer said. Barrett's wife and four children were believed to be living with him in Costa Rica, as well, the investigator said.
Followers of the House of Living Water Messianic Assembly appear to share beliefs of Judaism but view Jesus Christ as their Savior and may also hold beliefs created by Barrett, Bowyer said. Barrett was previously an associate pastor with the United First Methodist Church before being released from his duties, the investigator said.
