house.. just the 2 of us, and 2 well mannered small dogs. we wont have a lot of time to learn the 'Territory' there.. so any help is appreciated. a low crime area is necessary in or near Augusta. ..as she will be there alone for a while till i can get rid of this house, find a job there, we will have to rent there. we live simply, both Buddhists. quiet homebodys, both 60 yrs old.

thanks for any help.:hi:

1. I know NOTHING about Augusta. We just moved to ATL last summer to help
out my parents. I would, however, like to welcome you to GA. :-)

From what I can tell so far, we NEED you down here. It's a VERY red state.

2. Have you thought about..
maybe buying a low cost house from HUD? www.hud.gov
There are lots of houses in Georgia on the market and several of them in that area are very low cost like 10k and the area isn´t too bad as far as crime. Augusta is small and not a lot of crime.

3. GA
don't know much about Augusta, but know that it gets packed during a one-time national golf tourney in the spring. I am in north metro Atlanta...welcome to GA!

4. Yeah
it does get packed. I am presently living in Honduras, but our perm home is in Douglasville, Georgia. I never thought I would live in Georgia as I am a Texas girl, but Atlanta grows on you and I love it there.

5. you may also consider North Augusta, SC
Which is just across the river/state line in South Carolina. Home prices could be less expensive for you, but I will confess to knowing nothing about good neighborhoods, walking communities, etc. Also, you mention traveling a lot and I am unsure as to location of Augusta's airport (although I will point out that Columbia SC is just 70 miles from Augusta and that could give you more travel options).

I found this info on the web searching for Buddhist Temple Augusta (from Google):

WAT SANTIDHAM
3917 OLD WAYNESBORO ROAD
AUGUSTA, GA 30906
TEL : (706) 790-9374
FAX : (706) 792-9002
URL : http://home.beseen.com/cultures/watsan/
E-Mail : watsantidham@yahoo.com
(Dhammayut Order )

Perhaps this temple can be of guidance to you. Enjoy the sweet tea and grits!

7. That sounds like fun!
Augusta is a really nice place to live, and i cant believe how peaceful it really is. I used this moving company i found off of this website. Really helped a lot with the big items we had. They are actually located all around Augusta, Augusta Movers

8. I would highly recommend Harlem, Ga.
It's about 17 miles S-SW of Augusta on Rt. 78. In addition to being the birthplace of Oliver Hardy, my son and grandkids live there. At the moment, I'm looking at homes there & will probably move w/i the next few years.

Harlem is red but manageable.
