might have a shot?

Just rec'd this from Organizing For America...

Organizing for America

Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 20th, voters across Georgia will head to the polls to cast their ballots in this year's primary election.

We've accomplished a lot in these past few months -- including a health reform victory that was 100 years in the making -- and our participation this fall is a crucial part of ensuring that we can keep the momentum going.

To make sure you're prepared, please click here to confirm your voter registration and the location of your polling place:

http://www.sos.georgia.gov/MVP/Login.aspx

Polls are open on Tuesday, July 20th, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. You must present a government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license or a state ID.

Georgians will cast their votes for the candidates who will represent them in state and local government and in the halls of Congress -- so it's crucial that as many voters as possible make their voices heard.

You can visit the website below for more information about voting:

Thanks,

Lee

1. I came here for this very reason.
:)

I'm going to the polls, first thing. I'm not happy with Barnes but oh well. Better than any Repuke up for the job.

Here's some info:

Former Governor Roy Barnes appears headed toward an easy win next Tuesday in Georgia's Democratic Gubernatorial Primary race.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Democratic Primary voters in Georgia finds Barnes earning 59% of the vote. His nearest competitor, state Attorney General Thurbert Baker, trails with 16% support.

This is the widest margin between the two candidates yet, but Barnes has far outdistanced Baker from the start. In August of last year, he led Baker by 33 points in a hypothetical primary matchup.

2. I'll be at the polls, too, but sadly I don't know much about any of
these people. Their platforms sure were kept pretty quiet around here.

Do you know anything about the other races? Is it a wrap for the rethugs, or do any Dems have a chance besides Barnes?

5. No,
I'm really late trying to figure out who to vote for. I figured the Repukes have Ga pretty much on lock and wasn't even gonna vote but I can't Not Vote, so here I am.

3. Sure, I'll be voting
See the AJC Voter Guide for profiles and positions of most of the candidates -- includes local district info based on address & zip code. You can use this to generate a sample ballot, which I plan to do because there are so many races and candidates this time.

The choices for governor aren't that inspiring, although of course any Democrat would be better than any of the Republican candidates. I kind of like DuBose Porter, although it's a negative that his wife is the Dem front-runner for Lt. Gov. (Can you imagine if the governor & lieutenant governor were a husband-and-wife team??) I will probably take Molly Ivins's advice and vote my heart in the primary and my head in the general (or the run-off, whichever comes first). I may hold my nose and vote for Barnes anyway. He isn't all that bad, but I'm really PO'd with him for saying Georgia needs an anti-immigrant racial profiling law like Arizona's. x(

There are several important races besides governor this time -- Lt. Gov., Secretary of State, Attorney General, State School Superintendent, Labor Commissioner -- and maybe some local positions, depending on where you live. So I'm trying to get familiar with the candidates in the competitive primaries so I'm not scratching my head at the Diebold screen trying to figure out which name I like the best.

I'm loving the Republican internecine warfare this time around. At the least, it means they have to vote in their own damn primary instead of packing the votes in for the most beatable Democrat like they did in the South Carolina U.S. Senate Dem primary.

4. This article on FiveThirtyEight is a good read,
although it focuses almost exclusively on the governor's race:
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2010/07/georgia-primary-preview.html

It's unfortunate really that Oxendine probably won't win the Repuke nomination, because he seems eminently beatable. But maybe the squabbling between the Palin/teabagger (Handel) and Gingrich (Deal) factions will be entertaining and productive. :)

9. Both Lame54 and I voted yesterday
We used this site to find out more on the candidates to help us make our decisions. It had links to most of their sites. Since our move to Georgia it has been difficult finding info on the various candidates and their platforms. We have not been involved like we should in local elections. We decided since we are going to be here longer than anticipated we need to change that and get involved.
