See the
AJC Voter Guide for profiles and positions of most of the candidates -- includes local district info based on address & zip code. You can use this to generate a sample ballot, which I plan to do because there are so many races and candidates this time.
The choices for governor aren't that inspiring, although of course any Democrat would be better than any of the Republican candidates. I kind of like DuBose Porter, although it's a negative that his wife is the Dem front-runner for Lt. Gov. (Can you imagine if the governor & lieutenant governor were a husband-and-wife team??) I will probably take Molly Ivins's advice and vote my heart in the primary and my head in the general (or the run-off, whichever comes first). I may hold my nose and vote for Barnes anyway. He isn't all that bad, but I'm really PO'd with him for saying Georgia needs an anti-immigrant racial profiling law like Arizona's. x(
There are several important races besides governor this time -- Lt. Gov., Secretary of State, Attorney General, State School Superintendent, Labor Commissioner -- and maybe some local positions, depending on where you live. So I'm trying to get familiar with the candidates in the competitive primaries so I'm not scratching my head at the Diebold screen trying to figure out which name I like the best.
I'm loving the Republican internecine warfare this time around. At the least, it means they have to vote in their own damn primary instead of packing the votes in for the most beatable Democrat like they did in the South Carolina U.S. Senate Dem primary.
