I tend to have a meal out three or four times a week and I have such lousy luck (or I'm so hard to please) at restaurants that I constantly have bad experiences and typically have some if not all of my meals comped.

People with me, like my wife, insist I'm not being unreasonable but that I probably speak up when there is a problem more than others do.

So, I'm always threatening to do a restaurant review website but just can't ever get to it... so... I'll just warn fellow Georgia DU'ers (and those traveling through Georgia) about my various restaurant experiences.

#1 - Wall Street on Roswell Rd. (formerly Three Dollar Cafe)

I had a $50. gift certificate for Three Dollar Cafe. I called the particular location I am closest to only to find they'd changed management and names. They assured me everything was still the same. But when I got there I was informed they would not honor the gift certificate. My wife, a friend, and I were already there so we just decided to stay.

We ordered an appetizer of spinach dip and chips. The waiter was late bringing it out (it came with our meals) and it appeared to have sat under a heat lamp far too long. The top layer of cheese had crusted over.

We sent it back. A few minutes later, the waiter returned with a "fresh" order which was really the same order - he'd just stuck a spoon in it and stirred the crusty cheese. The crusty cheese was still crusted on the sides of the bowl. My wife gave me the "let it go" look so I did. :(

I had 10 wings and 10 fried shrimp and they were excellent. Three Dollar Cafe claims to have the best wings in Atlanta and I wasn't disappointed.

My wife ordered chicken fingers, which she said were wonderful, with bar-b-que sauce for dipping - only it wasn't bar-b-que sauce, it was wing sauce. We sent it back and the waiter returned with another bowl of wing sauce. "Maybe this is their bar-b-que sauce," my wife reasoned.

Her meal also came with these fried onion strings that were cold. Not just a little warm but cold. This time I complained and a manager asked me if he could warm them up. He didn't offer to make a fresh order. He wanted to warm them up! Bleeh!!

Wall Street (Formerly Three Dollar Cafe) gets a :shrug: WHY BOTHER? Rating!

I believe it is on Roswell Road. It's a fabulous seafood buffet. Any kind of seafood you can imagine. It's a bit pricey, but worth the cost.

4. If you still have your gift certificate, theres a Three Dollar Cafe in

McDonough now. I go there often on Thursday nights with teacher buddies to play trivia. It's a drive from Sandy Springs (taking it you went to the Old Roswell Rd. Three Dollar Cafe), but if you are ever on the southside and want to use your gift certificate, PM me and I'll meet you there.

As for my favorite restaurants in Atlanta, I like any of the Peasant group restaurants (Pleasant Peasant, Micks), don't know if they still have their restaurant on Roswell Square (can't think of the name), but it was really excellent the two times I ate there. My husband says Ted's Montanna Grill is great (I haven't eaten there). With three kids, though, we usually end up eating places like On the Border, Chilis, and Up the Creek, just because they are child friendly.

6. $3 cafe in Sandy Springs/Roswell opening again

There is a $3 cafe on Roswell Rd just south of the river on the corner of Hightower. It burned several months ago (always looked like they had never cleaned the grease) but they are now hiring and it looks like the should be open again within weeks.

Bellinis an Italian hole in the wall behind the Fresh Market in Dunwoody Village is good.

Frankies at the Prado in Sandy Springs is ok. Five Seasons Brewery is not cheap but great food and the beer made on premises is great. That is at the Prado also.

It's not New York Style pizza but I like all the Mellow Mushroom pizza places.
