...and letting their employers off scott free.
Following is a portion of an email from my right-wing state senator, Bill Heath. He's claiming a bill he's proposing is going to cut down on illegal immigration - what it boils down to is that he wants to let those who hire undocumented workers get out of paying workers comp claims when they get injured. This is simply rewarding the people and companies who hire undocumented workers while putting those workers in greater peril. Talk about making disposable human beings!!!
I hope that many here will let the Georgia legislature know what we think about this.
From Bill Heath, BillHeath@BillHeath.net :
Immigration is not just an issue that affects the 31st District, but should be of great importance to every individual who lives, works, pays taxes or is educated in our state. It's not right to wait until worker's compensation funds are wasted on illegal immigrants before considering whether we should be compensating an illegal immigrant who took a job from a U.S. Citizen. As this bill moves through the committee process, we will hear from many passionate individuals on every side of this issue. This is how good laws are made. Introducing a bill is the beginning of the process, not the end, and we want to hear from all Georgians. I want to make clear that any law making Georgia less attractive to illegal aliens will help reduce the problem by attrition. If there are fewer illegal aliens in Georgia, that will save taxpayer dollars in education, health care and law enforcement. It will save federal tax dollars as well. This session you will see various bills relating to immigration reform in Georgia. Every time we miss an opportunity to correct the problem of illegal immigration in our state, we miss a chance to save taxpayers valuable dollars.
