Athens: FREE BUS RIDES On election day, Tuesday, Nov. 2,

Athens Transit will provide free public transportation all day on all bus routes. Butch McDuffie, director of Athens Transit, hopes that a free bus ride will encourage people to (1) vote and (2) try public transportation, perhaps for the first time. Go to www.athenstransit.com for more details, including a listing of all the polling places by district and the bus routes that serve each location. (Flagpole will publish these routes and polling places in the Oct. 27 issue.)

VOTE EARLY Remember, you don't have to wait until election day to vote. The week before, Monday, Oct. 25 through Friday, Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. you can go vote at the Board of Elections office at 155 E. Washington St., next to City Hall, at the bus stop. If you haven't already taken advantage of this great customer service, you will be amazed at how easy it makes voting. You can go at whatever time of day and day of the week that suits your schedule and do your duty without standing in a long line, as you'll probably have to do if you wait until election day.

Isn't this a great idea? I hope that everyone takes advantage of the public transit and early voting. The main downtown bus stop is right by where you vote. And, if you bike, you can put your bike on a rack on the front of the bus. How cool is that?

2. All metro areas w/ public transit should do this on 11/2

GA DUers should contact their public transit authorities.
Athens-ClarkeCounty is a progressive island in a right wing land. Urban areas, like Macon, Columbus-Muscogee, Augusta, Albany, Savannah, & Valdosta could greatly increase turnout if this is implemented. Combined with early voting this strategy could be key. Most GA bus services, outside of Atlanta, don't have frequent service and long hours. But, if one can vote early, then it's easy to schedule one's day to stop by the early voting location.
