1. The Dems will be in Colony Square.
PM me if you want more info on that.
Georgia For Democracy will be at Ashton's in Decatur, and at our HQ at 410 14th Street. Also, perhaps not official, but we can be pretty sure that Manuels Tavern will have the returns on the big TV!

2. Manuel's shoudl be awesome . . .
I was there for the 2000 election and it was packed and so much fun. If you wanna sit, though, I would suggest getting there early.

3. How about Athens area Dems?
Is there anything planned? In 2000, my husband and I danced in our garden and toasted each other when we heard that Gore was declared the winner. Of course, later in the evening, our joy was turned to confusion and then despair. I'm not sure if I can even stand to watch the returns. on Nov. 2. However, I do feel super confident about the Dems chances this time around . So far, registration and early voter turnout seem to be very good for us

5. I too was wondering about Athens
I live up here now and am wondering if anyone knows of any large groups of dems getting together to watch the returns, or perhaps a business (similar to Manuel's) up here that's dem-friendly and is planning on showing coverage?

Hopefully next Tuesday will be a night of great joy and not despair!!

10. DePalmas (eastside) or the Gautreaus would be good places.
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 05:47 PM by CottonBear
When do ya'll want to meet up? Maybe we could meet after work on Wednesday, Thursday or over the weekend. I've got to go watch my stepdaughter cheer on her (losing) football team on Friday night.

Locos is OK too. You can sit outside at Locos, Gautreaus and DePalmas. Just be warned that the eastside Locos is where the Republicans meet. The owner, Jamie, is a big Republican. He's a nice enough guy. I just don't like his politics.

If we met on election night we could meet downtown at the Globe or Manhatten Cafe. 1340 am broadcasts the election results live. Everyone gathers at City Hall (or is it at the County courthouse?)and watches the results come in. Usually all of the candidates are there. It would be so cool to see John Barrow, Becky Vaughn, Jane Kidd, Ira Edwards, States McCarter and Carl Jordan win on Nov. 2!

What times and places appeal to ya'll? I'm within walking/biking distance of most all eastside places.

11. The Courthouse sounds awesome . . .
I also heard that there may be something going on at the 40 watt, but I don't have details yet. The Globe seems like a friendly enough place too, and Manhattan. I would like to see television coverage if possible though. I'll probably head out around 7:30 or so, grab some food, and then settle down somewhere. I'm am fine with any of those places. I live really close to downtown though, and I'm not really familiar with the Eastside, so that's probably out for me.

12. Hi Mallifica!
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 08:26 PM by CottonBear
I'll contact Maddy Powell or one of the other Democratic party people and find out where they are going to be. I'm actually a citizen advisory comittee member of the A-CC Democratic Party, so I should try to make an appearance at the "official" election results watching place. It would be very cool to hang out with the candidates. I think the results are posted at the City Hall. We need to wear DU buttons or something so we'll know who we are! I'll e-mail Maddy tonight and get info on where everyone will be. I look forward to meeting all of my fellow DUers.
I got to hang out with John Barrow and Carl Jordan at John's house a few years ago at a fund-raising event. We drank beer and checked up on all the latest local Democratic news via the internet. John is very cool. I sure hope that he wins. Peace.

18. Hi there
I was at the Kerry rally tonight at the arches, which was awesome, by the way. We went down to Tasty World afterwords, and they are also having something for tomorrow night. There will be food, and they sell drinks. They plan on having TVs set up and some music, so it sounds like a good time - - very dem-friendly. I plan on spending a chunk of time there, and then maybe hopping around a bit.

I think I'm working with NEGAD (Northeast Georgians Against Discrimination) for a bit tomorrow, and perhaps the Becky Vaughn folks. I'd also like to drive people to the polls, so it should be a busy day, followed by intensely nervous results-watching.

I would totally wear DU colors out tomorrow, but I don't know what they are.

Hope it's a good day!!!
