they're the ones who, along with Cheap Channel, own most of our AM dial: KHNR 650, KGU 760, KHCR 940. Plus, when they bought KAIM 870, they took our only 50,000-watt AM station off the air so they could apply for a power increase for a station in Glendale! (KAIM is back, but at much reduced power.)
http://starbulletin.com/2004/05/07/business/index.htmlOne of Honolulu radio's worst-kept secrets is now official. Pending federal approval, the four remaining radio stations belonging to New Wave Broadcasting LP have been sold to Maui-based Visionary Related Entertainment LLC for $11 million.
Visionary will buy KQMQ and KDDB and retain the stations' formats, while in order to meet federal ownership limits it is simultaneously selling KPOI and KHUI to California-based Salem Communications Corp. in a $3.7 million asset purchase....
T.J. Malievski, vice president and general manager for Salem Media of Hawaii Inc., would not divulge the company's plans.
Salem bills itself as the leading radio broadcaster focused on religious and family-themed programming.:puke: :puke: :puke:
Why on Earth do the fundies own half of our broadcast spectrum? We undoubtedly have the lowest percentage of Christians of any state; in many areas, the Hongwanji Buddhist is at least as well established as First Baptist. Yet, besides Salem (and KLHT 1040) on the radio, there are no fewer than four Christian UHF stations here: channels 14, 26, and the newer 38 and 44. The latter two are on channels reserved for noncommercial
educational programming, but Colin Powell's son at the FCC says that it's "educational" as long as they educate* me that I'm going to hell 'cause I hang out with all them lib'ruls and homos and fem'nists. </sarcasm>
