the mayor of Olympic site Whistler, B.C., no less!
http://starbulletin.com/2005/08/10/news/index5.htmlThe mayor of Whistler, British Columbia, a ski resort town and key site for the 2010 Winter Olympics, says he needs a mid-life change from mountains and snow and will do his mayoral work at a distance.
"I'll be the mayor, but living in Hawaii and performing duties from there," said Mayor Hugh O'Reilly.
Facing his 50th birthday next month, O'Reilly announced yesterday that he's moving to the islands to sell real estate.
O'Reilly won't run for re-election in November. Instead, he'll complete the rest of this term, either telecommuting or commuting to council meetings from his new home in Hawaii, he said. This raises a number of obvious questions:
Are we now residents of the riding of Whistler South? What would happen if we went down to Honolulu Hale (or other county seat) and demanded
en masse to change our voter registrations to NDP?
Will any attempt be made to host the Winter Olympics here? Our facilities include the Ice Palace skjating rink on O'ahu, and a snowcapped Mauna Kea (it means "White Mountain") at least two weeks out of the year. :-)
And, does this mean that
pakalolo is now legal?? :smoke:
