* November 2nd Actions * A Courageous Father Speaks Out * The Bush Crimes Commission * Non-Violent Direct Action Unite to Drive Out the Bush Regime! The National Office of Not In Our Name has called for a Day of Die-In's and Resistance to Endless War and Repression on November 2nd in solidarity with the emerging World Can't Wait movement. See the NION National Call at NION Call. For more info on the World Can't Wait campaign go to WCW.
Not In Our Name Hawai`i is calling on all of its supporters to play a big part in kicking off a strong movement of resistance on November 2nd, and to bring a strong focus against the war to the day. There will be banner-drops, die-ins, marches and rallies all day long. Plan now to take the day off!
Tentative Schedule for November 2nd actions: 7 am to 5 pm: Action Center at Old Stadium Park. This is the place to go! There will be an information board with news of what's happening. Materials (like paint, posters, leaflets, stickers). You can join spontaneous actions (like banner drops and sound truck forays), or get transportation to the main actions. Even if you can only stay for a little while, you can be part of the day's actions. 7 am to 9 am: Banner drops and sound trucks UH-Manoa Rally and March: 9:30 am. Gather at Hamilton Library on McCarthy Mall for a rally, die-in's and a march through campus (and continuing on to Old Stadium Park)
Downtown convergence: 11:30-1:00 pm. Gather at King and Bishop Streets
Action at Kapiolani Street Recruitment Center. 1:30-3 pm
3-5 pm: Banner drops and sound trucks
Bike Ride: 5 pm. (tentative)
6 pm on: Celebration downtown. Live bands, films, slam poetry at Next Door (43 Hotel), Club Pauahi, Arts at Mark's, and the streets inbetween.
We especially want to urge NION supporters to be at the action in front of the Kapiolani Street Recruiting Stations beginning at 1:30 pm. We'll have lots of earth flags, NION banners, and other counter-recruitment material. There will be a dramatic die-in for those who are willing to participate (certainly not a requirement). Other NION chapters across the country are also planning actions at recruiting stations (for a great description and photo of an action at the Oakland Recruiting Station see NION reports).
A Courageous Father speaks out Those of you who came to the September 24th action at Ala Moana had the privilege of hearing Pat Murray read his statement about his son, who is in Iraq: "We're proud of our son, but not what he is doing". Many were very moved by the Statement, which was printed as an op-ed piece in the Star-Bulletin, and have asked for a copy. You can access it at Star Bulletin. Pat is a member of the newly formed Hawai`i Chapter of Military Families Speak Out.
The Bush Crimes Commission The Bush Crimes Commission will hold its first session of The 2005 International Commission of Inquiry on Crimes Against Humanity Committed by the Bush Administration of the United States on October 22nd. This special session will focus on Bush's response to Katrina. This Inquiry, in the spirit of Nuremberg, the Bertrand Russell Tribunal, and the World Tribunal on Iraq is sponsored by The Not In Our Name statement of conscience. Subsequent sessions will be held in November and December. For more information on this important Tribunal, see Inquiry.
