"Peace Now: Bring Our Troops Home and End the War!"
a Talk by Medea Benjamin

Friday, November 11 (Veterans Day)
Church of the Crossroads, 7 pm

Informal talk on Activism with Medea Benjamin
UH-Manoa Center for Hawaiian Studies
Saturday, 6-8 pm
Medea is co-founder of Global Exchange and CodePINK. She is based in San Francisco and has spoken at numerous international and national anti-war and anti-globalization rallies. She has participated in many CD actions - including enormous bannerdrops, interruptions on the Senate Floor and at the Republican National Convention. She was one of the featured speakers at San Francisco's World Can't Wait rally

Medea is also co-author of a recently released book, Stop the Next War Now: Effective Responses to Violence and Terrorism, co-authored with Jodie Evans, Alice Walker, and Arundhati Roy. The book includes a chapter by Ann Wright. While on O`ahu Medea will appear at Native Books (Ward Warehouse) for a talk and booksigning from 11-2 on Friday, and a booksigning at The Peggy Hopper Gallery on Saturday from 2-5 pm.

Militarization at UH:
On Tuesday evening, Nov 8, General Eric Shinseki (former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army) will deliver at talk at UH-Manoa's Campus Center Ballroom as part of the "Distinguished Lecture Series". According to the University, this series "brings internationally recognized scholars to UH Manoa for lectures and discussions. This is a UH-funded series. All expenses are paid and the speaker is given a generous honorarium. In the past the series has brought such leading intellectuals as Ngugi wa Thiong`o (African author and critical theorists), Jared Diamond (Guns, Germs and Steel; Collapse), Alice Walker, and more.

Because Shinseki is a Japanese American born on Kauai, he has become a "favorite son" among many. But what does Shinseki want as his legacy in Hawai`i? More militarization! And now, the Stryker. Shinseki (along with his friend Dan Inouye) authored the plan to bring the Strykers to Hawai`i. Shinseki has been one of the chief promoters of the Stryker and his relationship with General Dynamics has been the subject of corruption probes. To pick up some of the allegations just google "Shinseki" "Stryker" and "General Dynamics" and follow the tracks from there.

Or talk with Kyle (AFSC), who sums up the relationship between Shinseki, General Dynamics, Inouye and the Stryker very simply: "Just follow the money!."
