Another longtime Democratic Party worker and former party officer, George Waialeale, reports seeing "a lot of new faces" at pre-convention rallies.

"Because we don't have the state administration, I think that is why there are a lot of new faces," Waialeale said. "I see a lot more Caucasian people. Some look like Republican defectors."

Huh? I, for one, certainly do not look like a repuke defector, even if I did once vote for Sen. Lowell Weicker -- over Lieberman -- twenty years ago!! (Weicker left the repuke party shortly thereafter and was elected Governor of Conn. on a third-party ticket.)

Indeed, Democrats claim that as support for President Bush and the war in Iraq sinks to new lows in public opinion polls, interest in their party in Hawaii is growing....

Jonathan Starr, the Maui Democratic Party chairman, said he has "two to three times as many members as before."

A number of those, obviously, were Kucinich (i.e. anti-war) Democrats, since Dennis carried Maui in the caucuses. This would be the best possible outcome: not just more Dems, but more progressive Dems, rather than those who are tied to big-money developers like all too many at the Legislature.

2. Beware the pub carpet baggers who come with larceny in

their hearts. But then, there will be some good ones with nothing but benevolency and altruism and a mood to help. The bad ones reveal themselves soon enough.

I hope this increase is an indication Shrub is uniting the Party as he said he would. What a guy! Thanks Nose Miner.
