Our Parks look like shit

Today's Honolulu Advertiser on the deplorable condition of our state parks:

A new survey of users indicates improvements are badly needed at Hawai'i state parks....

Visitors are happy with natural resources at parks, according to the survey, but unhappy with restrooms, food concessions and security. They are moderately satisfied with signs.

In other words, the parks look like... what Opihi said.

This is especially troublesome for the island of Kaua'i, where there are no national parks (like Haleakala on Maui or Hawaii Volcanoes on Hawai'i, the Big Island), so most of the best natural attractions are in state parks that look like... well, you know.

1. I've noticed an increase in homeless people in Ala Moana Park over

the past year. Some of the bathrooms are in terrible shape (cleanliness wise).

3. Lingle had a big photo op last weekend at the Merrie Monarch Festival.

The announcer made much of the fact that she was the only Governor to attend the festival in it's 41 year history.

Watched every minute...some day, Id love to go to Hilo & see it in person.

And yeah, the homeless problem is getting bad. DUH!!! Look at the cost of housing.

They are planning some sort of tent city on the leeward side, but residents are mad.

This is really bad. If Hawaiians start to tilt repuke, I may have to go through an "agonizing reappraisal" in terms of my ongoing support for the Hawaiian cause. Hopefully it won't come to that... but now I'm thinking about the Hawaiian guy who came to an anti-war rally with a Lingle/Aiona button on his cap... :puke:
