Howard Dean spoke to a wildly enthusiastic crowd Saturday morning in a packed (standing room only)ballroom at the Sheraton Waikiki.
He was introduced by Neil Abercrombie who managed to whip up the conventioneers into a frenzy with statements like "Howard Dean had the courage to take on the right wing, fascist, reactionaries.".He went on to say that he was proud to be among the first in the congress to support Dean.
"My wife Nancy was one of Howards original e-mail army", Abercrombie said. He went on to say that she broke into tears upon meeting the former Vermont governor for the first time today. "I was quite moved be Nancy's reaction. You have to keep in mind that I have been in public office for 30 years" Neil said.
Howard Dean got his first of many standing ovations when he firmly stated "I did not support the Iraq war from the beginning." He touched on several subjects including heath care, early child care and Bushis "no child left behoind" fiasco.
There were many Dennis Kuchinich t-shirt wearers in the audience. Dennis has about 8 delegates from Hawaii who will travel to Boston.
