Judge Jay Bybee of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will be in Honolulu tomorrow Tuesday, May 12 thru Friday, May 15 to hear Hawai`i cases on appeal to the Federal Court.

As a former assistant attorney general and head of the Office of Legal Counsel in President George W. Bush's Justice Department, Bybee was responsible for the notorious torture memos that enabled the excesses at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, and other places.

Judge Bybee does not deserve his position in the Court, he shouldn't be allowed to interpret law as an appellate judge. He has shown no respect for our Constitution, and deserves to be impeached by Congress. He was appointed to a life time judgeship based on his credentials as the chief architect of the torture memos at the bequest of George W Bush, and it is outrageous that he is coming to Hawai'i to rule on cases involving Hawai'i issues and constitutional law.

Momentum is growing to hold Judge Bybee accountable for violating our U.S. Constitution. On April 27, the California Democratic Party passed a resolution calling for a full investigation of Judge Bybee and others for their role in allowing torture as "enhanced interrogation".

In addition, this past Saturday, Hawai'i Democrats of Oahu County Committee passed a resolution calling for the impeachment of Judge Jay Bybee at their convention.
