Vacationing on Maui 1st week of May, have a couple questions.
1) What are some places to visit locals would recommend that don't get all the tourist traffic? Keep in mind I am very respectful of privacy, property and quite discreet and low-key.

2) I'm gonna be at a timeshare in Napili, so I have a kitchen and will be preparing some of my own meals. Is there anywhere close (and by that, I mean so I don't necessarily have to drive into Wailuku or Kahului) where I can buy groceries that won't break the bank?

3) I'm a craft beer geek. Besides Maui Brewing, is there anything else on the island? If not, are there any good stores with a decent selection of Hawaiian craft beers from other islands?

1. Maui
The best place for you to stock up will likely be Safeway in Lahina. Not a walk, but a short drive.

The drive to Hana and up the volcanoe are not to be missed.

Doubt you will find much micro brew. The whole population of the island is about 168,000. Not a much of a population base
for anything but tourism/service industry/retail.

Be prepared to be shocked by gas and food prices. Well worth it, though.

Aloha!

2. Hope you're having a great time...!!!
...by now you've found the Times Supermarket in Honokowai.. closer to you than Safeway, and better prices too...

May 14, there's the Maui Brewers Festival at the MACC....

4. I like Nagasakos in Lahaina--Mom & Pop type. Only drawback
is it closes earlier than Safeway. I like shopping local when possible. The prices might be a little higher, but I feel better supporting them.

5. One more thing--they tend to give you a $ break if you don't act
like a tourist. :)

For eating out, I'm addicted to the spring rolls at Thai Chef Restaurant in Lahaina. It's a little hole in the wall around the corner from Foodland but the price is right and you get lots. Some think it's too grungy, but we loved it. If you want to pay for ambience, go to Benihanas. There's also a really good lunch truck if you get south of Wialea. It parks on the left side of the road past the Maui Prince Hotel. If you really want to splurge, go to Mama's Fish House in Paia.

Man, I love Maui! We try to get there every other year or so to watch the humback whales. Awesome. You'll probably be too late, but there may be a few stragglers.

Snorkel around Honolua Bay but don't touch the reef please. Respect it as if you touch it you KILL IT!!!
Go to Haleakala Crater, Check out IAO Valley, look at the lavender farm, check out the goat dairy :) Also drive around west Maui. It will be hard to find places without tourists however that's what drives our economy here no longer agriculture. We are unsustainable idiots now.

Kula rocks but I am biased I live there. I say look at our beautiful island :)

Note: Private Property is that, you can get in serious trouble going on somebody land without permission here. Trespassing is srs bidness.

I know you already came but I posted for all other people that might visit.
