Abercrombie supporters covered the entire makai side of Kapi'olani Blvd. from the newspaper building at South St. all the way to the Convention Center at Atkinson Dr. It was by far the largest sign-waving event I've seen in my 4 years here. Various union contingents such as the Plumbers and Fitters were prominent.
Is Tanonaka really that much of a threat? All the early press has gone to the Case vs. Antichrist, er, I mean Gabbard, contest in the 2nd CD. I'd almost rather see this coordinated Dem effort on behalf of our legislative candidates, many of whom (if the S-B is to be believed) are under siege by the repukes. What good does it do us if Abercrombie is reelected by 3 to 1 instead of 2 to 1, while the repukes get enough House seats to sustain Fish-face's inevitable vetoes, or :scared: even capture the chamber?
Edit: Or could Abercrombie be worried about Libertarian Elyssa Young, the, um, "adult-industry worker"? I kid you not:

On her website www.erinobryn.us, she offers a "premier courtesan experience," which is completely legal. Young is also a lay midwife and a doula. And she just happens to be running for U.S. Congress District 1, against incumbent Neil Abercrombie and republican Dalton Tanonaka, a former CNN International news anchor.Ah, the irony: Think about what kind of business dominates the strip where Abercrombie's people were waving signs yesterday...
