Tom Brokaw thinks the repukes can pick off Hawai'i!
It appears that the old warhorse is retiring at just the right moment, before he completely loses his faculties.

Here he is on Russert yesterday (which was actually on at a reasonable hour because of the Olympics):

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5858461/

MR. RUSSERT: But we can have another amazing Election Night.

MR. BROKAW: We could. I think we will have another amazing election. And I think we have to be a little bit careful about those states that we put into play, because I think there's going to be some different ones that are going to be in play out there. Three months ago, the Republicans were confident they were going to get New Mexico back. Now, they're less confident about that. Nevada seems to be in play more than they'd like it to be. There was even some talk a couple of months ago and the Republicans said they could pick off Hawaii. You know, they've elected a Republican...

To paraphrase Rugmaster Charlton Heston, "You will pry these four electoral votes out of my cold, dead hand!" Boy, it would really suck if the travesty that was the governor's race led us to go repuke for President and throw the whole country under the bus, though...

1. HE'S DREAMING!

Hawaii hasn't gone for a republican for president in 40 years, except for Nixon in '72. And Gore won Hawaii by nearly 19%! :)

2. He said "the Republicans said..."
Not quite the same thing as Brokaw making the claim himself.

3. Ask yourself, now that Hawaii has a Republican Governor
Do they have a chance, by hook or crook?

I am not kidding yuo, before we moved back to the mainland I attended some early Dean Meet Ups, and I got the impression that many Democrats were not cognizant of voting machines and fraud. You think the governor is not capable of some hanky panky?

10. I actually got a look at some of our new voting machines
they were showing them off at a disability tech show at the Blaisdell.

I made quite certain that none of them come from Diebold or ES&S (though the other companies are probably just as evil). I mentioned this out loud to the guy from the Board of Elections, too.

You raise a good point, though. The repuke governor in question is serving as the vice-chair of the NYC repukeathon whenever Denny Hastert :puke: isn't around.

Quite a turnaround for someone who avoided even using the R-word in her just barely unsuccessful '98 camapign, eh?

5. He's just repeating GOP talking points
Note he says that "Republicans said they could pick off Hawaii." Republicans say a lot of stupid things.

8. actually if you read Brokaw's comments it really isn't damning
He says that Republicans thought they could get NM, now they are not sure. He said that Nevada seems to be more in play than the GOP would like and he said "They" not Brokaw, thought that they could pick up Hawaii.

9. If they win Hawaii, the whole Dem party should pack up
and quit. It would be all over for our country. Fortunately, it ain't going to happen.
