Before and After the Elections: We Are Still Against the War! Festival of Resistance Monday, November 1, 11 am until at least 8 pm
The day before the elections, Refuse and Resist, Not In Our Name, and more than 20 other organizations will come together to deliver a huge NO to the entire Bush Agenda of War and Repression. Tell everyone. Announce it at your organization, class, church, and on your e-lists. Come together to network with other organizations; find out what is happening in Hawaii. Make the Campus Center an Ashcroft-free zone for the day!
By 11 am the entire campus center area will be also decorated with banners - including a banner of a full-sized Stryker. More than 20 grassroots organizations have already signed up for tables at the Campus Center. These include such diverse groups as DMZ Hawaii, Sisters of St. Joseph, Conservation Council, Revolution Books, and Hawaii Political Action Council. They will have stickers, patches, leaflets, buttons and games. (The Sisters of St. Joseph are even providing materials so you can make your own buttons!). Tables will be up until 8 pm, so even those of you who work will be able to participate.
NION-UH will host a political rally at 11 am that will feature families of military, veterans, student and community activists.
At noon Makana will entertain the crowd with a set of protest songs! The rally will then continue with speakers, musicians, and more! Acoustic musicians will join us for the afternoon, while protest films will be shown on the large TV on the steps. Two films, Fahrenheit 911 and Outfoxed, will be shown continuously in one of Campus Center rooms.
By 5 pm the campus center will be rocking! Some of Hawaii's best poets will be on stage, including the Hawaii Poetry Slam Team, Jesse from Wordstew, and Ellen Cachola. As will be live bands X Factor, Black Square, Cornerstone Rockers and Kahuli.
