HAWAII CLEAN ELECTIONS PUBLIC MEETING!

HAWAII CLEAN ELECTIONS PUBLIC MEETING!

Tuesday Nov 30th, 6 pm
State Capitol
www.CleanElectionsHawaii.org

Calling ALL of Hawaii's community leaders and advocates:
* Environmental
* Workers Rights
* Civil Rights
* Women's Issues
* Health Care
* Transportation
* Drug policy Reform
* Insurance Reform
* Senior and Children's issues - and ALL the rest...

For the sake of ALL of our important issues, we must break the
ties of Special Interest money and their agendas in our
political campaign system in order to best serve the people of
Hawai`i.

Aloha!

The Clean Money, Clean Elections campaign reform legislation
came within a hairsbreadth of passing the 2004 Legislature.
Since then, Hawai`i Clean Elections, the non-profit, non-
partisan advocacy organisation, and its sister organisation,
the Hawai`i Elections Project have been actively working to
prepare for the 2005 legislative session.

We received virtually all of our proposed grants and today with
more full and part-time staff and a well-equipped, fully
functioning office at the Richards Street YWCA, we are almost
ready to take on the 2005 Legislature. We are still missing one
key element. YOU! Meaningful campaign finance reform will
simply not happen in Hawai`i without your help. If we all take
one or two simple actions, we can ensure our success this
session. The 2005 legislative session is IT! Be a part of this
historic reform that will change the face of politics in
Hawai`i. Please join us for our:

Hawai`i Clean Elections Grass Roots Action Meeting
Tuesday, November 30, at 6:00 PM
State Capital Hearing Room #423
Pupus & drinks

There is ample metered
public parking beneath the Capitol. Enter off Punchbowl Street.
Mahalo for your kokua!

In 2004, the states of Maine and Arizona ran a smooth and
successful Clean Elections program. Eighty-five percent of
Maine's legislative candidates and fifty-five percent of
Arizona's legislative candidates ran clean; they took no
private campaign contributions and have broken the ties of
special interests. Come help us make Hawai`i the next "Clean
Elections" state!

THE REFORM THAT MAKES ALL OTHER REFORMS POSSIBLE

"The largest roadblock toward the American Restoration is a
corrupt campaign finance system that promotes plutocracy
allowing laws and regulations to be stealthily auctioned to the
highest bidder....Private control of campaign financing leads
to private control of the government itself....Public control
of the political process requires public financing. The
restoration of our American Democracy depends upon public
financing." --U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich

2. Yep, sure did, wouldn't miss it for anything.
It was wonderful. First of all what a joy to be in a well run meeting! The agenda was posted on the wall. There were at least 50 people there and we were done, tasks all signed up for, ready to go in....
drumroll please....
ONE hour. Fantastic. Great meeting leaders, we are going to prevail this time.
When the time comes I will post here and ask Hawaii DU to call your legislators AND corrall 5 people each to call theirs.
OK?
You in?
It really is the reform that makes all other reforms possible.
Mahalo!
