No apology to Inouye (Rice vote)
At yesterday's luau the subject of the Rice vote came up. Akaka, obviously, did the right thing. Then someone mentioned he hadn't seen Inouye's name on the list at all. Could it be that he missed the vote, and thus that I'd been unduly harsh on him all week?

Um, no:

http://inouye.senate.gov/

WASHINGTON — "I voted today for Dr. Condoleezza Rice to serve as our Secretary of State not necessarily because I agree with her philosophy and vision as they relate to the war on terrorism, and specifically the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I did vote for her for the following reasons:

"Number 1, she is the choice of the President, and the President wants her to be his voice on matters relating to foreign relations. As a rule, I support such nominees unless the nominee is a criminal or intellectually or mentally unfit to carry out the duties of the relevant office. Dr. Rice is intellectually well prepared, if one considers academic achievement. Very few people can match her record of academic accomplishments.

"Number 2, I felt that to vote against Dr. Rice might make me guilty of having a double standard. During the debate on her confirmation, I could not help recalling that when the previous Secretary of State went before the United Nations Security Council with photographs that showed aluminum tubes that were supposedly important in the development of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and asserted that they were acquired by Saddam Hussein from Nigeria.

"When that presentation was later found to be misleading and not factual, I don't recall any of my colleagues standing up and condemning Secretary Colin Powell for lying and misleading the American people and the United States Congress.

:puke: :puke: :puke:

So from now on, Dems must sit in stony-faced silence every time a repuke is caught lying (hint: you can tell because their lips are moving :-) ) just because we fell asleep at the swithc on Powell?

Nice backhanded slap at Powell's pack o' lies, though, I must admit. Kind of damning Condi with faint praise: "Yeah, she's a liar, all right, but she's really no worse than the other guy..."

1. Condi doesn't get half the criticism she deserves. Let me take another
opportunity to say again " Condi's a liar, and to her discredit, she's not even a good one".

After 4 years of bunking with the Bushies you'd think she would be good at it by now.

3. Hmm... Dan. I think there are plenty both here and abroad..
that strongly think Condi-ment (remember her last name is a starchy vegetable) doesn't qualify on these two counts:

"I support such nominees unless the nominee is a criminal or intellectually or mentally unfit to carry out the duties of the relevant office."

Anybody seen "The Trials of Henry Kissinger"? Ready for the sequel? "The trials of Colin and Condi": Coming soon to a war crimes tribunal near you. ;)

Psst: If you want to watch Henry's trials for free, go here:

Consider it a "preview of coming attractions".

And, the following is the best argument yet for the need for a third party:

"When that presentation was later found to be misleading and not factual, I don't recall any of my colleagues standing up and condemning Secretary Colin Powell for lying and misleading the American people and the United States Congress." :hurts:
