Please, Hawai'i DUers, step away from the monitor and pick up a pen and the phone. Please.

From Hawaii CLean Elections:
Aloha!
GREAT NEWS! Unannounced, Hawaii's Clean Money, Clean Election bill was
debated and passed a full House floor vote, with 42 "YES," 2 "YES with
reservations," only 3 "No" (and 4 absent), today, Friday, March 05 @
1:30 PM. Even many House staff were surprised by this
totally-unexpected action. Fortunately, our Jessica Wisneski was able
to get to the Capitol in time to observe the overwhelming support shown
during the debate and vote. The House bill will now cross over to the
Senate for hearing.
On the Senate side, after passing the Judiciary and the Ways & Means
(finance) Committees, we are expecting the senate floor vote next week.
Even with this good fortune in the House, MUCH remains to be done to
pass "The Reform That Makes All Other Reforms Possible." Earlier this
week, our HB1713 and SB1689 passed BOTH money committees; from House
Finance with no amendments, and out of the Senate Ways and Means, with
the only major amendment being to include County Prosecutor races. More
on that surprising new development later. Together we delivered over 60
testimonies in support of public funding for each of these committees.
What a difference it made! Thank you.
Of course, our job is far from over. With the Senate floor vote
anticipated next week, we then move to phase two - the second set of
committees. And so we must continue to push hard. The numerous
detractors with their vested-interests and their own agendas are now
stirring; along with those who want to protect their special access to
legislators. Some legislators will require a compelling reason to pass
it. YOU, their constituent are that reason. Let's talk old fashion
citizen participation. We must all individually make our voices heard
at the legislature. Collectively is the ONLY way we will ever see this
legislation passed. Here's what YOU can do now:
1. Write a letter (on paper - old fashion style, and MAIL IT - OR FAX
IT) to your OWN state representative and state senator. Every
legislator needs to be receiving letters and your writing as a
constituent makes ALL of the difference (link to talking points below).
2. Follow up your letter with a phone call (link to list below). Tell
them you wrote the letter, are a constituent and SUPPORT HB1713 or
SB1689 - the Comprehensive Public Funding bill.
3. Write a letter to House Speaker Calvin Say (perhaps thank Say for
passing it) and Senate President Robert Bunda (perhaps tell him to do
what the House just did) and tell them both to support Public Funding.
As House and Senate leaders, their support is vitally important. If we
can get them, we've got them all.

legislator is. You can get their phone number under the House and

talking points if you need, to write the letter.
Your hard work is what will change the way politics works in Hawai`i.
Nothing else will. Hawai`i Clean Elections staff is willing to help
folks write op-ed pieces for media and write letters to the editor, and
we continue to lobby - but still, NOTHING will happen unless our
legislators, all of them, hear directly from their own constituents,
you.
Please call us if we can be of any assistance with your letter writing
and phone calls or to answer any questions.
Mahalo for your work, please let us know when you have sent your letter
and to whom you sent them.
Sincerely,
Many thanks,
