We need Akaka & Inouye on ANWR

Do you guys know why they vote for drilling? Any groups in Hawaii that can put pressure on them to change their vote? Looks like the vote is due on Wednesday.

1. They have this unholy alliance with Ted Stevens (R-Devil Incarnate)

especially Inouye. They way it's supposed to work is that Stevens (and Murkowski) cross party lines to support stuff that we want (the Akaka bill, say) while Inouye (and Akaka) do the DINO thing for stuff that Alaska (well, Stevens anyway) wants (like ANWR).

Inouye has been doing enough of the DINO thing on his own lately, anyway: Rice, bankruptcy bill, etc. :grr:

3. Hopefully, Inouye will retire, and Akaka will get spooked about tearing up

the aina (even if it is in another state). If not, we have to make sure everyone remembers this when he comes up for re-election.

4. It is high time we asked Inouye exactly what we are getting

in return for his unquestioning fealty to Prince of Darkness (six months out of the year, anyway :-) ) Ted Stevens.

Sure, Stevens would support the Akaka bill, and order Murkowski to, too - if it ever came up for a Senate vote, which it never does, because other repuke senators keep putting "holds" on it.

Just what has Stevens ever actually done for us in return for the votes he needed to rape the land and ensure those fat Permanent Fund checks keep rolling in?
