OAHU COUNTY COMMITTEE
Democratic Party of Hawai`i
Jimmy Toyama, Chair
Aloha Fellow Democrat;
As you probably know, the optional Hawai`i Clean Elections campaign
finance reform legislation is now being debated by a conference
committee at the Legislature. Many of us who have carefully analyzed
this bill, which is supported by a State DPH resolution, feel that this
legislation passing this session w ill help us bring political
campaigning back to our grass roots in 2006, capitalize on our numbers
(Vs. the Republican's big money), and help us in building our
Democratic Party. As you can, please take a few minutes to read the
following from the Hawai`i Clean Elections organization and participate
as is possible. We Democrats can help make the difference and see this
very popular Progressive legislation passed this session.
Mahalo.
Jimmy Toyama
FORWARDED MESSAGE
Tomorrow, Thursday April 28th @ 2:00 PM (or before) in State Capitol
Room 325.
This MAY be the last day Conference Committee can pass the Clean
Elections bill.
Although they seem to be getting further along in their discussions,
our bill has become one gigantic political football EVERYONE is
throwing around. The question we are now asking is, "How are they
likely to KILL the bill - not "How are they likely to PASS the bill."
On Thursday, tomorrow, we need to PACK THE ROOM with Clean Elections
supporters. We've got T-shirts to wear, and signs to hold! We want
them to feel the heat tomorrow.
There has never been a more important time to take a later hour lunch
break, skip class, or to take some personal time off. If there is ANY
possible way you can come to the Capitol at 2 PM - or beforehand to
help lobby the legislators - tomorrow, PLEASE DO! If Conference
Committee passes the bill out tomorrow, Hawai`i will have made
political history.
We need your physical presence in the Conference Committee room
tomorrow. Please phone or email me so I know whom to expect. If you are
on a Neighbor Island (or can absolutely not make it tomorrow), make
your presence known by making more phone calls tomorrow to the
Conference Committee Members AGAIN! (list below)
Tell them:
"Today is the day you must PASS CLEAN ELECTIONS OUT OF CONFEREN CE
COMMITTEE. Use the money already available in the Hawaii Election
Campaign Fund, that is what it supposed to be used for - give Clean
Elections a good first test - House races in 2006."
If you chatting with a HOUSE member, make sure you let them know you
are proud of them and happy that they are ready to embrace this
monumental campaign finance reform, and that we are excited to prove
the system works so we can expand it in the future.
I know we are asking you to make the same phone calls again and again,
but they are crucial, and effective. Please phone or email me to let me
know you can come tomorrow to the capitol at 2 PM or earlier.
Mahalo - YOU ARE THE BEST! PLEASE COME TOMORROW! YOU CAN HAVE A FREE
HAWAII CLEAN ELECTIONS T-SHIRT TO TAKE HOME!
WE MUST PACK THE ROOM WITH CLEAN ELECTIONS SUPPORTERS!
Please phone me with any questions or concerns.
Mahalo!
