http://starbulletin.com/2005/05/10/news/index1.htmlHonolulu's top-rated television stations, KHON and KGMB, are for sale, along with 14 sister stations from Florida to Oregon.
Indiana-based Emmis Communications Corp. was expected to announce today that it has hired an investment banking firm to explore options including an outright sale of its television division, according to an e-mail sent yesterday to station managers from Jeff Smulyan, Emmis chairman, president and chief executive....
The upcoming sale poses an opportunity for community groups, long opposed to Emmis' ownership of both Honolulu stations, to speak up again....
"Obviously those same people would look at the sale of the stations as an opportunity to protest any further continuance of the duopoly," said attorney Chris Conybeare.Obviously!
Actually, if you must have your stations owned by a faceless mainland conglomerate, Emmis isn't a bad way to go. It even contributes to (shhh) Democrats! Imagine if we head for the bus stop next week to read the headline "Sinclair to buy KHON, KGMB"... :scared: Or perhaps Carlyle would like some TV stations to go with its shiny new phone company :puke:
I don't suppose we could put together a group to pick off KGMB? "When severe fascism threatens our islands, everyone is at risk, no matter whether you live in Kahala or Kalihi... KTDU-9, Hawai'i's severe fascism station".
