6. Whre is that located - I had a kickass time there ages ago
Isn't it right down from the capital (or maybe white house - we could see one of them from the front door). I remember the weekend to because we happened to be visiting my friend's brother who goes to college in DC and it just happened to be the weekend of one of the biggest gay rights march on DC including the first time the AIDS quilt was put on display. But being a someone shallowheaded college student who hadn't quite figured out the whole GLBT thing (hey, it was 20 years ago), I had no appreciation at the time of what happened.

But we did have a major drunken night as this great Irish place called the Irish time.

7. The other side of the Hill
From where you are staying. It is one block from Union Station Metro about 6 blocks from your hotel. It is on a little side street that sits at the intersection of North Capitol St and Massachusetts Ave. About 1 block from the metro and 3 blocks from the Capitol. It is always a fun place to go and they opened a basement bar too.

8. Irish Times
a stone's throw from Union Station, mostly college age at night, Catholic U and Galludet (hearing impaired). Next to the Dubliner, which is a bit more upscale.

In the block with Capital Lounge is PoliTiki and Hawk & Dove.

9. Thanks for all the suggestions
Main thing we need is a place where folks can just hang out and mingle without a large dining crowd to contend with. We're actually going to DC this Saturday for the day to check out some stuff for the event and I'll put all of those places on my list. You're also welcomed to join us for lunch if you like! It's just JimmyJazz and myself with a few others possibly joining in.

Thanks again!

BTW, they did say that the CapLounge was going to try and rebuild quickly. How bad was the damange?

10. politiki is gonesville, only for private events now
it's the 'Pennsylvania Pour House" now...http://www.politiki-dc.com/
they still call the basement politiki, but it's lost the tiki feel.

(it's my bocce bar, hence my knowledge, our sponsor is the pour house, but we meet downstairs)

11. I'm thinking of doing the Irish Times but I'll check things out this ...
...weekend.

I'm heading down to DC for the day so I can get answers to the questions I've not yet covered for this trip. JimmyJazz is suppose to go with me but now it might be Ramsey instead but I was hoping for both.

I just want a giant size dive-like bar where folks are more concerned with drinking & mingling NOT dining. We used a couple of great places like that in NYC that worked like a charm so I'm hoping for the same in DC

12. Friday night in DC in Sept-
you're going to have to contend with crowds, sorry.

Larger places include Lulu's at 22d & M NW, McFadden's at 24th & Penn NW, and Ireland's 4 Provinces in Cleveland Park. All are metro accessible.

Most DC bars are narrow and small or are large and posh.

It's tough to find a good 'dive' bar in DC, there isn't much of a working class - it's either cheap for students or expensive for yuppies.

13. The TImes
We may be able to rent the basement of the Irish Times from 6-10pm for a private party, the fee is something like $75.00 for 4 hours. It may have gone up but it would be a great place to rally and then we can mingle with the crowd upstairs and down stairs as the night goes on.

14. I don't want to rent something, not because I'm cheap
but because I just want a laid back come when you want type mentality. People are going to be shuffled like cattle all day on Saturday so it's nice to know that there's a place where we're hanging out and getting drinks.

We had such sucess with this type of gathering with Boston (People's Republik), NYC (ROcky Sullivan and that place they used last time) and Philly (Doobies) that there has to be a similiar style bar in DC that we can visit.

I'm heading to DC this weekend and will scout stuff out and make a choice then. I know the bars will be crowded with College Students and Congressional staffers but we'll still have a great time no matter what
