Jews for Jesus to hit streets of DC
from the moonie times, of course

Jews for Jesus to hit streets of D.C.

By Julia Duin
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Dozens of evangelists with Jews for Jesus will hit the streets of Washington starting next week for a monthlong campaign at Metro stops, downtown areas and college campuses aimed at the Washington area's 215,000 Jews.
More than 600 people took an evangelism-training course last month at the 10,000-member McLean Bible Church to prepare for the "Behold Your God" campaign. The blitz also will involve radio and newspaper ads.

now this is my favorite part: ""We want to make the messiahship of Jesus an unavoidable issue to Jewish people in the Washington area," said Stephen Katz, Washington director of Jews for Jesus. "We want to ask them: Is He our Messiah or not?" er, no, jackass, he isn't. You know what you call a Jew who thinks Jesus is the messiah? a CHRISTIAN. It's kinda a big difference, you know? Millions of Jews have died because they didn't believe that Jesus was the messiah. Jews went to their deaths at the hands of Torquemanda, Hitler and every tin-pot dictator who needed a distraction for the past two millenia denying Jesus was the messiah, nad you think you can convince them to deny their faith and heritage with a few radio spots and a couple of teenage canvassers? please.

but it should be fun, none the less.

2. I was in a Jewish youth group growing up and we protested in front of
a place where a Jews for Jesus event was taking place.

In my opinion, it's a covert way of people trying to convert Jews to Christianity, plain and simple. It's as if to say my religion is not valid. What ever happened to live and let live?

3. you were in a Jewish youth group...
and you wonder what happened to live and let live? c'mon, if there is one group of people, save Native Americans, who know that Live and Let Live isn't reality, it's the Jews, no?

also, please remember that the United Methodist Church, the episcopal Church, the Catholic Church and several other denominations have banned prostleytising to Jews, in the words of the Pope, Jews have "their own covenant with God."

7. My point was we were protesting them from spreading the falsehood
that Jews could still be Jews and believe in Jesus. There is no such thing.

Why are you jumping down my shit?

12. don't mean to be hostile
just that I believe there has been enough pain and hostility created by people telling others (too often Jews) what they were supposed to believe. This is just the latest incarnation of the concept.

5. don't be silly
There's nothing covert about it! Jews for Jesus is an in-your-face, over-the-top, all-the-bells-and-whistles cult.

6. they are Christians
from Jewish families, who try to convince other Jews that Jesus is the Messiah. That part isn't so remarkable, since the first Christians were Jews anyway and anyone is entitled to believe whatever religious doctrine he or she wants. The disturbing part is that they use the whole cult behavior bag of tricks (see http://www.exjewsforjesus.org/ for details about that).

9. *ahem* clearing throat*.....should I *go here*......
probably not, but I will anyway, b/c I *trust* the level of truth-seekers here (and I in NO WAY profess that I know what's *true*, just looking to discuss here)

"We want to make the messiahship of Jesus an unavoidable issue to Jewish people in the Washington area," said Stephen Katz, Washington director of Jews for Jesus. "We want to ask them: Is He our Messiah or not?" er, no, jackass, he isn't."

So, how will you KNOW when you see HIM that the (your) messiah has come? What will be the clue?

10. It's not like anyone has come back from the dead (if one believes in
an afterlife) to say, is how I look at it.

"If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there," as George Harrison so eloquently put it. That's pretty much my philosophy on religion, honestly. My faith is right for me, but who am I to say what you or anyone else should believe?

13. So, you don't believe that Jesus conquered death....
...you don't believe those stories....perhaps they are just 'stories'. Is that where the 'problem' really is?

11. well, the simple answer is from Isiah
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks:nation shall not life up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. (King James Verion, Isaiah 2:4)

and since, quite obviously, these standards have not been met, the Messiah is not yet come. Last time I checked, the coming of Jesus (a prophet to two of the Big Five, the Messiah to one and meaningless to the other two) failed to usher in an era in which nations stopped lifting up swords against each other. ergo, he's not the messiah. By this standard (add in hte whole thing about wolves lying down with lambs (Isaiah 11:6) and Jesus is no more the Messiah than Sabbetai Zevi or Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson.

Q.E.D.

by the way, I am not Jewish, simply amused by the concept of people who would claim to be one religion while denying the central tenent of that religion, and embracing another. You can either believe, as Jews and Muslims do, that God plays by the original rules, or believe, as Christians do, that God changed the rules mid-stream. Both are equally valid, from my point of view, since I personally believe in neither, but hasn't enough damage been caused by people telling Jews they believe the wrong thing?
