House GOP Proposes to Repeal D.C. Gun Bans
Vote May Come as Bush, Kerry Debate Limits

By Spencer S. Hsu
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, September 14, 2004; Page A01

A majority of the U.S. House of Representatives is supporting legislation that would repeal virtually all of the District's gun restrictions, targeting one of the nation's most stringent handgun bans while the presidential candidates are battling over gun limits.

Rep. Mark Edward Souder (R-Ind.) said House Republican leaders have promised him a vote before the Nov. 2 election on his proposed D.C. Personal Protection Act, which would end a ban on handguns in the nation's capital; remove a prohibition against semiautomatic weapons; lift registration requirements for ammunition and other firearms; and cancel criminal penalties for possessing unregistered firearms and carrying a handgun in one's home or workplace

Look, whatever you think of this issue, this simply has to piss off every American, shouldn't we get to vote on our own bleepin' laws?

two things to note: first off, the sponsor, Rep Souder (anyone from this guys district? don't you have problems at home he could be working on?) doesn't even live in the District, he lives in SoPa.

Second off, Do you think I'll be able to carry a gun in his workplace, or is he just giving other people the right to carry a gun into my workplace?

2. Hi, northzax!
I'm afraid this is a pretty quiet and sleepy forum, so it takes us DC DUers a while to getting around to checking it out. As for this latest outrage, what is there to say? Having partnered with you against the gungeon idiots from time to time, I know you're as appalled by this as I am, but it's frankly no less than I would expect from this Congress. Since DC is ruled by a congressional subcommittee and has no means of defending itself, we're prime targets for this sort of political showboating. I'm actually surprised it took the jackbooted thugs this long to think of it...
