Dear friend of United for Peace and Justice,
We know that you are very actively working to stop this atrocious war! We also know that every individual counts! On January 27th, people from every corner of the country in cars, buses, peace trains and planes will descend on Washington, DC, to demand that the new Congress do what the President won't -- get us out of Iraq.
Truly, this has the potential to be the largest march since before the war started.
Many of you have already taken the time to go to the UFPJ website and volunteer to help out on January 27th. The response has been great! But as the potential size of the march continues to grow, so does the need for many more volunteers. As many of you know, the success of such a huge event depends on the willingness of many individuals to help out in many different areas. And many -- like you -- continue to offer your assistance in these times of need.
SECURITY VOLUNTEERS Because we want to provide an environment that is as safe and secure as possible for all of the marchers, the greatest volunteer need is for security marshals for the march and rally. You do not need prior experience. We will provide training and orientation in Washington, DC, on Friday evening before the march on Saturday. If you are able and interested in helping out in that area, please go now to the UFPJ website, and complete the volunteer form there and check the security box. The coordinator of security will contact you directly.
OTHER VOLUNTEER NEEDS In addition to security, we also need volunteers in other areas including money collection and sales, leafleting and gathering petition signatures, picking up and moving supplies, posters and equipment to and from the march and stage areas, assembling press packets and handling press check-in at the media area.
Please -- if you have not already done so -- take a moment now and consider how you can help out on January 27. Go to www.unitedforpeace.org/volunteer and sign up.
We are all very excited about the potential for a hugely successful weekend. And that success depends on you and everyone person who attends.
(In the event that we have too many volunteers for one area and not enough for another, we're asking that you allow us some flexibility in assignments).
Make sure you dress warmly. See you in DC!
Geoff Hartman (UFPJ DC Volunteer Coordinator) Nia Wiltshire (UFPJ National Volunteer Coordinator)
