Why the lack of interest in the March in March?
Edited on Sun Mar-11-07 12:52 PM by yasmina27
I'm amazed at the lack of interest expressed here at DU regarding the march on the Pentagon next weekend. No meet-ups plans, no gathering points, etc.

From all accounts, this seems like it will be bigger than the march in January - which was spectacular!

Freeper-in-charge Jim-bob and his minions are caravaning all the way across the country to "protect the monuments" from the "leftist anarchists" who defaced the Capitol in January (yeah - like we all stormed the capitol, and, unable to gain entry, spray painted horrible messages of communism and whatever other garbage their ferret-brains could manufacture).

Cudos to those who are planning to attend. Our plans are not firm, but we really want to go.

To be honest, most of our family is going out of town for a wedding. We will most likely have to take our daughters, 9 yo and almost 11 (as she prefers:) ) They've been learning about the government and freedom of speech in school, and our original thought was that this would be a perfect example of democracy in action.

But now, with the wackos planning to attend en masse - and it sounds (dare you go to freeperville?) like there will be alot, I don't want my daughters exposed to any potential violence.

For my DH & I we couldn't give a shit - if they want to give us crap, we'll give it right back at them.

In Jan., by this time, plans were made for a meet-up at the Hawk & Dove on Fri. night.

Are there any plans being made at all, or is this a non-starter for DU this time around?

I am going to cross-post to GN and the DC forum. Please delete if not appropriate

1. I'm surprised, too
Is it because this protest is sponsored by ANSWER?
I can't turn down the opportunity to march on the Pentagon - I'll be there!

2. Here's your answer
Although UPJ is going to be a part of it, this is mainly being organized by International Answer. Last IA protest I attended was back in Sept 2005 and I vowed to never attend any of their protests again. UPJ does enough of them and I can always do something local to get involved.

But IA has a tendancy to include more speakers than what was originally scheduled thus holding up the march hours over the original march time. And many times those speakers have very little to do with the issue at hand (the war) other than yeah, we oppose the war now get involved with our pet plight.

I might find a local bus heading down to the protest, but I'll save the big trips for the UPJ marches or if NOW/NARAL organizes another march for choice

6. Not true!
this is mainly being organized by International Answer.
That's not so....

There are many, many churches and vets and mothers and others who are organizing now.

4. I went in January and just couldn't go again so soon
And I also dislike A.N.S.W.E.R. is involved. They really screwed up the march in September '05.

From the sound of it, January was the right choice weatherwise if I could only do one. I'm going to attend a local rally tomorrow.

5. freeper Jim-bo is running away from Fresno
gimpy (not a vietnam injury) Jimbo is fleeing from Fresno because of the Rally in the Valley

The Freepers are a sad group of people.

I expect a lot of Veterans there and they won't be standing with the Freepers.. they will be march across that bridge to the Pentagon.

The Freepers have spit in the face of Veterans and the Troops over in Iraq.
