Inauguration DU meetup?
Any tentative plans for a meetup in DC for the grand inauguration of President Obama? My dh, the republican (!) told me today to book a hotel in DC for us to go. Woohoo! Of course, every hotel within 20 miles is already booked solid, or so ridiculously priced, that it looks like we'll be staying a good hour's metro ride outside of the city proper, but I don't care.

I am SO excited! Our finances have been really tight lately, and although I had dreamed of going, I was never going to ask. He came to me early this evening and said to start looking, the only stipulation being that we can cancel in the dreadful event that McSame/Failin wins.

Also, any hotel suggestions?

PS. Xposting to GD

1. It may be early
but it's smart to plan ahead. I'm down for it but you can post this in the MD/VA thread too.

I'm not sure what the rates are, but there are some hotels in the Baltimore, MD area that are reasonably priced (except the Inner Harbor, 'cause they're high as hell). You can go to www.baltimore.org and get some additional info.

Hopefully you won't have to cancel if (yeesh, thinking about it gives me the chills) Gramps gets the nod.

If you need further assistance, please let me know!

2. There are several hotels along Rt. 1 in the Columbia/Laurel area.
It's about 30 minutes to the metro from there, and there is also train service in also (though not as convenient as the metro). Let me know if you need more information.

5. Hotels Available in DC
The Ukpe-Roberts Foundation was donated hotels for the
inauguration. They still have hotels in D.C. within a mile of
the Capitol where the inauguration will take place. They have
some residence inn hotels with kitchen and living rooms, so
maybe 4 people could go in together to split the cost. Their
website is www.ukpe-robertsfoundation.org. Good Luck!

11. The hotels are filling up real fast!
Once you get some more feedback please let me know. I'm in the New Carrollton, MD area, but I have'nt checked out if there are any more rooms available at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel for that weekend. You're welcome to contact them, but I think for the most part they're not too expensive.

12. that's a good location
at this point I think some folks are looking at Richmond. I checked all the main end points on the metro.

Another suggestion would be Perryville and take the MARC into DC
