JUNE 15 WHITE HOUSE PICKET TO DEMAND

“FREE THE CUBAN 5!”


The DC Metro Committee to Free the Cuban Five will hold a picket line in Lafayette Park across from the White House on Monday, June 15 from 5 – 7 pm to demand that President Barak Obama sign a pardon, to exonerate the five Cubans who were convicted in 2001 of conspiracy and other charges. They were tried and convicted in Miami, Florida, amid howling about a Cuban “spy network” engaged in espionage and received sentences ranging from 15 years to two life-terms, plus 15 years, in prison.

The Five -- René Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernéndez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labaniño, and Fernando Gonzáles-- were gathering information on counterrevolutionary groups in South Florida that carried out physical attacks on Cuba. These groups function with full knowledge of the United States government and were never stopped. The Cuban Five reported the activities of these groups to the Cuban government to help prevent future attacks.

As the facts about their case become more widely known, support is growing for the demand to “Free the Cuban 5!” Picket lines and other protests demanding justice for the Cuban Five will be taking place around the country on June 15.
