Headcount for DC Party
I'm trying to get some sort of unofficial headcount for the upcoming gathering/protest in Washington DC Sept 23-25th

The following events have been scheduled:

Sept 23rd 7pm: DU Pre-protest Party at the Capital Lounge
Sept 24th 9:00: DU breakfast TBD
Sept 24th 11:00: Meetup at Washington Monument for the Anti-war protest. A spot near the protest will be determined closer to that date
Sept 24th (Sometime after protest probably around 7pm): DU After-protest Party - RFDs

Let me know what events you will be there. There are no costs for these events other than the usual you incur (Drinks, food, transportation & lodging)

Hope to see you all there!!

1. Plans are in the works for me.
There are several (3-4+) of us from Michigan that are working on it. Not sure about the 23rd, but plan to be there at the Monument on the 24th. The pre and post activities will depend on travel arrangements for us.

17. LOL -- just saw this, Livvy,
after I posted below.

We need to get together to figure things out. I checked airfares and it's really cheap if we book this week. Sharing hotel isn't too bad, either, if we stay near National Airport. PM or call me!

114. I just today convinced enough people to give me money so that me and
Tamirlyn 79 can go.

We'll be there, now who is going to meet me at the WH immediately after the protest?

I want to get a picture of 100 or so people flipping off the White House.

It's kind of a thing.

I had to fundraise to get the money to go. I went around and bothered all of my favorite former teachers. here's my pitch...

I ask them if they want to go with us.

They all said they couldn't :( and then I asked for a donation.

For their donation they will get picture of us giving the finger. I'm photoshppoing it to add, "Thanks for making this bird possible."

I can not wait until Saturday, I can honestly say I will never, for the rest of my life, ever mean it as much.

14. I don't have a map in front of me but we'll figure out a location that's
nearby and hang out there.

I might take the train down from Perryville for the day and scout stuff out. For March for Choice, because DU was registered we actually had a location assigned to us so they could keep stuff organized (Ironically we were right next to the Delaware group and even though I was with DU, I was wearing the tee-shirt sold by the local PP from DE). But hopefully I can find a landmark or street corner within the protest where we can all meet and post about here on DU. Just haven't figured it out yet

30. Reminder: The Bloody Mary Happy hour is from 4-7
Capital Hill Lounge has a Bloody Mary Happy hour that is from 4-7 where they probably give you a glass with ice & vodka in it and then you go to a Bloody Mary bar and put the rest of the stuff in yourself (Like a Bloody Mary buffet).

Our party starts at 7pm, however, if you want to take advantage of their happy hour - head over early and make your own Bloody Mary

62. They're still having the Peace Train?
That's originating out of New Orleans and being organized by the NO peace group. I mean, the train will still be coming to DC because it's the Amtrak Cresant line but I kinda figured they'd be backing off with the hurricane and all. Half the stops were in LA/AL/MS

they're still showing Cresent arrival/departures on the website.

Edit to add:

Here's what they're saying about the Cresent

Crescent (trains 19 & 20)

This train normally operates daily between New York and New Orleans. Through the southbound departures on Sept. 11 and the northbound departures on Sept. 13, the trains will originate and terminate in Atlanta instead of New Orleans. Starting with the southbound departures on Sept. 12 and the northbound departures on Sept. 13, the trains will originate and terminate in Meridian, Miss., instead of New Orleans.

No alternate transportation is available between Meridian and New Orleans.

81. They do have food but it's typical tavern food
Food & Drinks are what you spend at the restaurant. I'm usually good for buying a few appetizers and sharing but you might fight it best to enjoy dinner where you want to go and then just hang out at the Hawk. I can assure you that Saturday will be a long day with all the activities going on and the fact that we'll probably be out in the hot sun to boot.

83. You really don't need to RSVP for anything
this 'headcount' thread was started ages ago when we first started planning the DC gathering. Plus when people see that there are many others coming to the event they get excited an make plans of their ownI really try to make it a point to not overplan too many activities because I know there is so much going on with the protest and post-protest concert.

Just show up when you can :D

92. What about signs?
I can't figure out what to do about signs.

I'd like to avoid bringing them with me, as I don't want to have to check any luggage (we're getting in LATE).

I don't want to have to bum them, either. Any ideas?? I doubt they'd let me carry on a big bag o' wooden stakes and poster supplies.

I'm pretty new at this; I've never traveled a great distance to protest before.

I'm sure some of you have some ideas. Please help.

Thanks in advance!!

Carrying it onto the plane to put in over

Will put it together after I arrive.

99. Thanks!
I guess I don't HAVE to sharpen my wooden stakes (that really never occurred to me until just now)!

I had a vision of trying to carry a bag of sharpened, vampire-slaying-caliber wooden stakes onto a plane. I imagine the Secret Service is especially wary of wooden-stake-carrying, garlic-reeking, holy-water-throwing types these days, though, so I should probably avoid sharpening my wooden sticks into shivs, huh?
