The Diary of a Dream: SeanQuinn's Trek To DC: 9/23-9/25

This is something I think that may be worthwile posting in here.

With the gigantic meetup and protest in DC on the 24th, I think it's my patriotic duty to get off my Floridian ass and get up to DC and protest.

There's one problem: I'm 12. And it's fairly expensive for one person (plus a guardian/parent) to get three nights room and board and a round-trip ticket to Orlando.

I want to go to up to DC. I talked to my mom, who's here on DU at times, and I described to her that this was the Civil Rights March of the 2000s. Hyperbole? Maybe a little. But I wanted to go THAT BADLY.

So far, the picture looks a little rosier. My mom seems to be okay with letting me go, with a roundtrip ticket to Washington, and staying with my uncle in Arlington.

That would be godly.

What I think I will do is post a diary. My diary of a dream to see if I can get up to DC and have a heck of a time protesting and meeting DUers.

I can only hope it works.

...and yes, it's the first most important protest of this century, that's why I plan to be there, plus DC is so weather friendly for off season tourists in late Sept!

3. I hope you get to go SeanQuinn

It will be an experience you'll remember the rest of your life, I'm sure. I'm 56 (this coming Sunday) and it's the first march/rally I've ever gone to. I was in college during the Viet Nam war and never joined in a protest. Guess I'm a late bloomer. I'm really looking forward to it.

4. You're 12???

You rock. I was certainly not vedry politically aware at 12 (though I dod publish a controversial interview with a mentally ill homless man on our school newspaper).

You will love protesting. There is this sense of solidarity and comraderie between the people marching, sitting, and chanting with you that can't be duplicated by any other feeling. It is amazing: a natural high that lasts for days.

Hope you make it to DC!!

5. Oh, I've protested once before

Only once. It's a great feeling hearing those honk horns and give thumbs up agreeing with you but it's also bittersweet yet fun hearing the boos and the middle fingers.

Quite great experience though.
