I'm in Wisconsin, so you may need to answer real slowly. ;-)

I understand that Cegelis was the DU consensus pick in the 6th, that she did well last time with less name recognition, and that people are going to be disappointed.

But...why does Duckworth suck so badly that some people here are ready to throw up? I've looked at her Web site and issues, and while she's obviously not as progressive as Cegelis, she's not striking me as Hyde in a dress with combat medals. (And if it's the war that people are hung up on -- why didn't Lindy Scott take off?)

Maybe because I'm not there, I'm not getting it.
Thanks.

1. you are correct
she's caught in the middle because of the symbolism of the race more than the race itself.

2. Thank you Dave, I believe you are correct
I just hope that after the hurt feelings from the primary pass Cegelis supporters will re-evaluate Duckworth.

Now can we stop this Dem infighting & focus on the neo cons. They are the real enemy.

3. because the dccc
has treated the grassroots like property.
and because, she is brought to you by the same dems that are standing around in dc with their thumbs up their asses, and their hands in other people's pockets. no reason to believe she will not take orders from the corporate wing.

Also she is against Timetables in Iraq. She sounds almost like Bush on her Iraq stance.

She was a handpicked candidate by the Democratic MACHINE and I feel like I have been robbed of a candidate. Everything was handed to her on a silver platter, while Cegelis worked her ass off for years for this. But I guess in 2006 America, working hard is not valued.

I will eventually support Duckworth but me and some 40+% of IL 6th voters are pissed right now.

If we didnt need the house so bad I would be making even more of a stink.

This is a fucking loose loose situation.

6. What exactly was handed to her on a silver platter?
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 11:09 AM by Freddie Stubbs
She had to run just like the other two candidates.

8. At what point will the bashing of Duckworth end and the effort to . . .
. . .turn the 6th CD blue begin?

15. Wow, a deleted message in a state forum thread?
Thanks, everyone for your insights. I knew very little about this race going in -- my "home" district (where I grew up) is the 10th, and where Dan Seals handily beat Zane Smith (which, having met both of them, I believe is the right choice). I live in WI-04 now.

9. Did Rahm Emmanuel help Ross Perot or Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 11:30 AM by Freddie Stubbs
A failed candidate from two years ago announcing that she is running for Congress again isn't as interesting an Iraqi War veteren who lost both of her legs in combat announcing that she is runnign for Congress.

12. If duckworth ends up winning the nomination, then pressure her like you
would do with other Dems. Write her, write LTTE's, protest in front of her office to let her know that you don't support her positions. If she does get elected, hold her accountable and if she's not listening to her constituents then run someone against her in the primary in 2 years.

13. The bottom line here is that we need a Dem pick-up in this district..
..and to the republicna faithful a disabled Iraqi War vet takes the edge off voting for a Dem for the moderate rethuglicans...

We need this seat as a whole, but ESPECIALLY because it is Henry 'hypocrite' Hyde's seat....

14. yes, and it is a right wing fundie running for the GOP in the 6th
That makes it harder to swallow for Cegelis voters because we feel wronged yet we cant vent because it would be deemed as harming the effort. We are caught in the middle of this fucking mess.

18. 6th district voters
You need to move on. Somebody wins, somebody loses. No candidate is perfect. Either Cegelis or Duckworth is a far sight better than Roskam. Beating him is what needs to happen. Just do it.
I'm in the 8th. I'm not happy either having to vote for Melissa Bean. She's another one of Rahm's picks. She's been a big disappointment. Voted with the repukes on many big ticket items. I could easily walk away.
But I won't.
Why? Because winning the house back is too damned important. If the Dem's win the house, we can at least hold the tide back and work toward a more progressive party. We can get back on offense.

Just my 2 cents.
