Just heard on NPR that Claypool has conceded to Stroger.
What are the chances that -- assuming Stroger is incapacitated long-term -- that the County Board would name Claypool as the new candidate?

I am guessing that the choice would be either Bobbie Steele (who I met one time at a corporate event) or Jerry (Ice Man) Butler.

1. Zero chances for Claypool, imo.
The County Board isn't going to name Forrest Claypool as the new candidate. I think the County Board wants to put the campaign behind them and name someone else.

Either one of the people you listed is a possibility.

2. If Stroger decides not to run in the General election
then it's up to the committeemen to pick a candidate and it does not need to be a sitting County commissioner so it doesn't need to be someone on the County Board right now.

3. Jessie White's name has been mentioned.
But then who fills the SOS hole?

6. My choice. . .Dan Hynes
. . .it probably won't happen but I would like to see it. His father is Stroger's chairman. If Hynes took the spot (they will most likely choose an African American) the Democrats can slate an Hispanic on the statewide ticket for Comptroller. If Jesse White takes the post the Dem party will have to choose between an African American or Hispanic to replace him.

8. The speculation is that it may still be White. . .
. . .so that Madigan can replace him on the ticket with someone from downstate for balance.

5. No way. He's great with tumblers, but horrible with anything more complex
The horror stories I hear from long-termers in State have repeatedly said that the top advisors leave no decision to him, not if they want it done right. He is a true figurehead. The County presidency is a hands-on job. Stroger was superb in keeping the patronage system running - and that is no easy task.
