2. Illinois will NEVER pass a law which outlaws same sex marriage.

Even the most 'party line hack type' of the R's in Illinois are 'Progressive' when compared to the mouth-breathers and knuckle-draggers who foolishly believe they are the imaginary "mainstream America".

I'll tell you what--- if the right-tards get their way in passing the anti-gay/anti-abortion laws they waste their time trying to pass, I will IMMEDIATELY invest my money into ventures that provide SAFE, LEGAL and RARE abortions wherever, and whenever needed, and I will NEVER care about the legality of it. I will simultaneously invest into the industry of the NO-DOUBT-WHAT-SO-EVER FABULOUS weddings that the same sex marriage community will not only have a right to, but demand. I have attended MANY 'commitment' ceremonies/parties. "There's money in them thar hills".

3. Illinois already has a law that outlaws same-sex marriage

At issue is whether that law will become part of the Constitution. As long as it remains a "law" there is a chance in a decade that it will be repealed when people decide to be nice to others and respect their privacy. If it becomes part of the Constitution, then it's going to be 20-30 years to get the damage undone.

4. "Laws" aren't the issue

Those commitment ceremonies you've attended...they have NO legal standing. Just a nice party for folks to say they love each other, of which I am totally in favor. BUt no bearing on taxes, insurance coverage, medical rights or coverage, etc. Illinois has no provision for same-sex marriage. I've done same-sex weddings, but I always warn the couple that they will NOT be legally married, I will NOT be signing a wedding license after the ceremony, and they need to see an attorney about ways to protect themselves.

The laws exist to keep same-sex marriages from being legally binding. The new threat is a constitutional amendment, at either the state or fed level, which would make it impossible for these marriages to ever become legally binding.

So, you need to call your broker. You've got some investing to do. The freeptards have already passed the anti-gay law.

BTW: I think Illinois, actually, is receptive to civil union legislation. The Governor is in favor and I think it could pass the Legislature. Plus, I think the people of this state are receptive to civil unions.

She certainly won't campaign on it, but she's a bit more moderate and progressive than some give her credit for. Her big issues are fiscal.
That's her expertise. Being a Chicago Republican, she's not a far-right ideologue.
