Are we doomed?
With so many people having so many beefs against Blago, seems like Judy's a shoe-in for November. :nuke:

1. Nope

JBT is disliked by many republicans. My guess is that they just won't vote at all.

Cheers

3. Rod won't win this election for himself
but Judy won't win it either. It will be a "lesser of two evils" election for most voters but Rod will come out on top. Judy just doesn't present an appealing alternative.

8. JBT Won't Win It
Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 05:22 PM by benny05
She doesn't have Chicago backing her much.

I'm voting 3rd party myself as I cannot vote for a wolf in sheep's clothing (her) and a current Governor playing games with my pension and robbing my university (UI) of much needed monies for infrastructure. If Blago would make a stand and say that he is choosing health care for all (especially kids--which he did do, and I'm glad), stem cell research, education at all levels, raising the minimum wage to $7.50, etc, etc--then I might be inclined to vote a second time for him. He's not tough enough in using fiscal responsibility and allows the lege to choose the wrong priorities, such as signing bills for funding electronic music festivals around Chicago (as though they need another one).

Our state has one of the worst deficits because of pork; we're paying for a mansion that his wife refuses to live in because of her snobbishness to reside in Springfield (and has a beef with UI for some reason), and he also betrayed the unions. Hard for me to be kind in my comments about him. I've asked one downstater running for the senate to please consider trade-offs and to hold Blago accountable for what he does.

9. Blago is for stem cell research and against ss privitization
That's why I am voting for him. I have complete confidence in him on these areas. I don't see JBT being able to stand up to the gop on this. Hell look at who here running mate is. Birket would probably be calling things behind the shots.

Blago is getting my vote only because I see him as a slot holder untill someone better comes along. I agree his week on fiscal issues especially pensions I am hoping that thats because he's a first time governor who inherited a corrupt state. He's bound to make some mistakes. I would be tempted to vote third party myself but I don't want to see our big blue state turn red again.

10. I agree he is for some good social goods
But the pork needs to go, and he needs to quit robbing my pension to pay for it. He's like Bush in the sense that he will go along with earmarks, and not standing strong for getting rid of the pork.

11. It's a catch 22
I really emphasie the situation your in. Im in it the same boat actually. My ssdi is at stake if topinka wins. Il politics really suck don't they? No one wears a white hat anymore. Hey can we get Senator Durbin to run, or is it too late ? :D JK
Hang in their about the pensions, I don't know what to say except that it's not right either, and I have to do whats good for my survival just as i am sure that you have to do what is right for yours.

Peace.

17. Governor election
Blagojevich STRONGLY supports stem cell research, and has put his money where his mouth is. He's fought the theocrats tooth and nail on that and the birth control pills. He's promised to raise the minimum wage to $7.50. I saw in that rag the News-Gazette Tom Kacich commenting sourly on the huge gender gap in the polls-- starting when B. was a Congressman he always made a point of backing women's issues. Kacich also mentions the fact that in the last poll Judy was taking 2%(!) of the black vote. In education he's made a start with universal pre-school. Please read MyDD's Governor Forecast.
People who say "We're doomed," and "how he got through the primary I don't know" have been paying too much attention to the (Republican-owned) media and hanging out too much with the Lynch Blagojevich Brigaders.

4. Honestly....
I'm not a huge fan of Blago's but the fact that Rove and W are so openly pushing her candidacy effectively makes it *impossible* to vote for Topinka.

No. Freaking. Way.

She's her own worst enemy. *Distancing* herself from W was the only way she could win. She took the wrong route....

Think about it: She's a socially moderate woman from the most populated part of the state. You need to pull *Democratic* and unaffiliated *left-leaning* voters to vote for you. She's already got the Republican vote, maybe some female votes, Chicago votes---maybe, downstate moderates---maybe.... She has gone the wrong way to get any votes from liberal/progressive/et al voters.

Honestly, it's the dumbest thing her campaign could have done. By aligning with Rove and W and having them campaign for her, she alienates a *huge* segment of this blue state.

Deep down, I wonder if she made some sort of bargain with them---I help you with Keyes if you help me when I run for governor.

5. Blago's energy plan was saluted tonight on CNN.
Cafferty touted it is a positive step. Anecdotally, I've heard that many who wont vote for Blag will leave the Guv uncast as they don't see any positives in Judy either. Turnout will be the key.

I still don't understand how he won that. But if the people I know are any gauge...stick a fork in him.

7. Blago is a mixed bag politically
Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 06:16 AM by DanCa
He's great on social issues yet hes making a lot of finicial mistakes. In his deffense he is a first term governor that inherited a corrupt mistake.
The one thing he has going for him is that JBT has as much appeal as a summer cold. This is going to be a knock down street fight that all comes down to a number game. I pick Blago slidding by in a squeaker.

12. Green Party
Blago is still leading, but it will be interesting to see what sort of impact the new Green Party candidate, Rich Whitney, has. Blago and his people really wanted to keep him off the ballot. He's got so little money I'd guess he probably won't have much impact at all, but we shall see.
