Gibson flap finds way to Schaumburg library

Mel Gibson's plea for forgiveness because of an anti-Semitic tirade this summer may not be enough to avoid having his "Braveheart" image removed from the Schaumburg Township District Library.

On Tuesday, the library board will discuss a request to take down a poster that features Gibson in his film about the Scottish warrior William Wallace.

...

"I get e-mails every week on a wide range of topics from people who use the library, so it doesn't surprise me" that someone would complain about Gibson's conduct, Forte-Scott said.

...

Bob Doyle, executive director of the Illinois Library Association, said he had not heard of any other library that has discussed removing films or images of Gibson.

...

"It doesn't take a quantum leap to see that if the poster goes, so go all of the films or anything else," Doyle said. "Libraries represent all types of thought, so if someone goes into a library and doesn't find something that is offensive to them, the library might not be doing a very good job."
