1. Are you speaking of Melissa?
I've not heard much from/about her, being well engaged in the dogged fight to unseat the fourth stooge-"Shemp-cuss."

I hear about Ms. Bean only rarely.

she voted for this:
MCA_Signing_Briefing_Paper.pdf
NO ONE WHO DID DESERVES REELECTION NO MATTER WHAT PARTY

she's supported by the u.s.chamber of commerce over a republican, the trib too, how much bigger do you want
you'd vote out a republican with her record, why not her

4. You know the theory. Get in some DINOs but then we get the majority
and then Conyers and Waxman can investigate the crooks. They've been trying to investigate but can't because they are in the minority party. Sure it's not ideal, but we don't have much of an alternative. Someone's gotta try to stop them before they destroy the planet.

7. and when we have a majority we still can't get anything good passed
because the conservative Democrats bail on the party. Getting a majority of Democrats isn't enough.

5. so where were you in march????
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 09:56 AM by LSK
Primaries are the time for this kind of talk. Not now. You are accomplishing nothing except helping keep the Republicans in the majority with this.

You should have seen the flamewars I was involved in with the Duckworth/Cegelis primary and I was a Cegalis supporter. Now I am volunteering for Duckworth because its General Election time and the stakes are higher than ever.

6. Good luck with that party unity thing. Let me know how that goes.
Bless your heart for being a good Dem, LSK! This is exactly what I was preaching back in January in the brew pub in Chicago. AFTER the Primary is over you pull up your socks and you work the full ticket or else you find one race you can stomach and then work the hell out of it. THAT is how it goes if you are IN FACT part of a party.

We have a similar problem down here with a County Board race that will probably open the door for the GOP to take back the County Board. We have people on our Dem EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE who are pulling for a Green because they are unhappy with the Primary result. our Party Chair is letting it go on. They are gonna undo YEARS of work with this and it is all in the name of revenge.

Want to find a Dem in my county? Just follow the bloody footprints where they shot themselves in the foot.

Regards!

Laura

8. we have issue w/repubs putting party before country
we shouldn't be hypocritical and do the same

Could Bean Flip in a Closely Divided Congress?

you say we needs dems for conyers, go thru my post, look at every time she voted to recommit, you can find dozens posts on DU and every other lib/prog/dem blog/site to block that specific piece of legislation, when push comes to shove, she then flipped for hastert

now, you say, we need to support the dem for this seat, but a dem isn't running

where was i in march ?? at the anti-war rally, didn't see her there
i was one of 17 people in mchenry county who voted for nancy skinner in the 2004 primary, last march, if i even thought to run, she had the backing of the party and the money, i would have lost

six months later, people are finally waking up, first to the fact that repubs are doing their best to destroy our country, and more and more people are frustrated w/beans votes, esp on the enabling acts she voted to put into law, i mean fuck that, i am not a 'good american', if i see someone abetting a criminal enterprise (re: bushco) i'm going to do something about it

if i had run in the primary and lost, then tried to run again for the general as an independent, i'd be branded a lieberman, no matter that six months of votes have gone by and showed what a bad choice she actually is

by last march, she had some iffy votes (schiavo, cafta, bankruptcy) where if i would have run, the line would have been "she's voting her district"

but in the last six months, "she's voting for authoritarian police state powers" that i cannot sit by and let stand

congress giving any president near-dictatorial power AND precluding the court from oversight is near treason, giving that power to THIS administration is insane

and you're going to want to vote for her because she is a 'dem', sorry, you're putting party before country, she's big-business corporatist giving away our rights, and you know it

if this election was going to be close (10-15 seats net gain), i'd sit by and hold my nose and vote for her, but this election isn't going to be close, it'll be more on the line of 20-40 seats, we can afford to lose one, she isn't a dem by any stretch of the imagination

the only thing she has for us is pro-choice, on the other hand, she is pro-corporate, pro-war, pro-eviscerating the bill of rights, and ignoring the geneva conventions

sorry, i cannot AT ALL vote for her, and i will do any and all to make sure she does not get reelected, i cannot vote republican (mcsweeney) or anti-choice (scheurer), what else can i do

the only thing is ask of you who read this is pass my information out to others, i'd want to know that there was an alternative to bean, i'm sure others would too

or is limiting choices and information what we're all about here

10. exactly the same as her 'cept anti-choice
we can't bitch about republicans who voted party over country, and then say we need to vote for any democrat who voted for the same heinous legislation, just because that person is in our party

she voted to remove your bill of rights protections

NO ONE WHO VOTED FOR THE PATRIOT ACT REAUTHORIZATION, THE NSA SPYING LEGISLATION, AND THE MILITARY COMMISSIONS ACT DESERVES REEELCTION, FROM WHATEVER PARTY

i voted republican once in a national election, back when rostenkowski was running in his last eletion, he didn't deserve to go back, i voted for his opponent

you cannot be a democrat, bemoan the authoritarin direction this country is going, and still vote for her

earlier, LSK talked about conyers, he voted against hr.5122, she voted for it, what's in it ??

H.R.5122

Remarks Of Sen. Patrick Leahy on the National Defense Authorization Act For Fiscal Year 2007 Conference Report

Not only does this Conference Report unfortunately drop the Empowerment amendment entirely, it adopts some incredible changes to the Insurrection Act, which would give the President more authority to declare martial law. Let me repeat: The National Guard Empowerment Act, which is designed to make it more likely for the National Guard to remain in State control, is dropped from this conference report in favor of provisions making it easier to usurp the Governors control and making it more likely that the President will take control of the Guard and the active military operating in the States.

The changes to the Insurrection Act will allow the President to use the military, including the National Guard, to carry out law enforcement activities without the consent of a governor. When the Insurrection Act is invoked posse comitatus does not apply. Using the military for law enforcement goes against one of the founding tenets of our democracy, and it is for that reason that the Insurrection Act has only been invoked on three — three — in recent history. The implications of changing the Act are enormous, but this change was just slipped in the defense bill as a rider with little study. Other congressional committees with jurisdiction over these matters had no chance to comment, let alone hold hearings on, these proposals.

but she voted for it 'cus she wanted to appear tough on nat'l security

we'll get the majority without her, we cannot reeelect people who want to 'protect' us by removing the freedoms we hold dear
