NEWS-SUN STAFF REPORT
Dan Seals, the Wilmette Democrat who gave incumbent Republican Mark Kirk a tough challenge in the November elections, announced Wednesday that he will run again for the 10th Congressional District seat in 2008.
"Our current representative hasn't shown the independence or good judgment to get us back on track," Seals said in a statement, adding that he feels "one of our most urgent needs is bringing a responsible end to Iraq as quickly as possible."
Making his first run for political office last November, Seals finished with 47 percent of the vote to 53 percent for Kirk, who was re-elected to his fourth term in Washington.
In Lake County, Kirk edged Seals by only 1,393 votes out of 87,453 cast, earning 50.8 percent of the vote to 49.2 for Seals. Kirk ran stronger in Cook County, topping Seals by 12,258 votes out of 114,754 cast.
