1. Nah.

This is nothing compared to January, 1982. Now that was cold: air temp of -27, wind chills of -60 to -80. Near blizzard conditions for extended periods. I was living in Chicago Heights at the time, and nothing moved for days at a time. We had to take our eyeballs out and carry them around in our mouths to keep them from freezing. (And we liked it!)

5. oh, i remember that winter. it followed 2 winters of record snowfall.

80" and 88" iirc. yeah, that was my first year in chicago. i was so cold that i knitted a sweater in a day. i couldn't move anything but my wrists. i just kept knitting and purling like a frozen robot.

we have had a few good ones in a row, here, tho. either snow, snow, snow, or eyeballs in your mouth. (that's a pretty good one. i will try to remember that one for the grandkids.)

6. I remember that winter.

My son was born the previous November. I had him to care for, and his two year old sister. Of course, I went nowhere.

The low here yesterday was -25, almost as bad as 1982. And they have changed the way they figure wind chills since 1982. I think this winter is just as tough for wind chills.

I remember winters prior to 1982 for their record snowfalls. After this winter and last years, it seems that we are getting back into the same kind of weather pattern. We were spoiled for a long time.

We live in the Midwest. We just have to be tough.

7. I never cease to be amazed at people being surprised it is cold in January.

I'm not being critical of anybody that is bitching about the cold, mind you. I'm not liking this too much, either. What I'm talking about is the people that are running around acting like they are so amazed by it being cold...

I was at the grocery store the other night and this lady ahead of me in the checkout line was just going on and on about how she can't believe how cold it is out there. I finally asked her if she had just moved to Illinois, and her response was, "Oh no, I've lived here all my life."

I'm thinking WTF? This is Illinois. This is JANUARY. It is ALWAYS f***ing cold this time of year! If it wasn't cold THAT would be worthy of comment--ya know?

8. The worse was 1983 when the wind chill was in the -80's.

My mom was dying and my dad was in ICU with 10% chance of survival.

Quite a year, old 1983.
